Publisher's summary

In the immediate aftermath of the Word Bearers' attack on Calth, survivors from both sides were driven into the subterranean arcology shelters by the tortured Veridian star.

While their primarch Roboute Guilliman had planned for many seemingly unthinkable eventualities, the Ultramarines now face a new war in the underworld - could Steloc Aethon, renowned captain of 'the Honoured 19th' Company, be the one to lead them to ultimate victory over the traitors? Perhaps, if he can master his own bitter desire for vengeance....

It’s an Ultramarines story...

The story does not really progress anything along the overall timeline. It’s just a story to be told.

Blow by blow military novella

This is the required ultramarine side of the story opposite 'Unburdened'. Unlike 'Unburdened', there is little plot beyond moment by moment descriptions of battle...for 5 hours. The most boring w40k I've encountered so far. Do yourself a favor and skip this one.

strong battle story

not a lot of "story" move forward in this book, but it was a good story that really wraps up Betrayal At Calth.

Could be skipped if you're sticking to the meat of the storyline, but you'll be missing out if you do.
