Publisher's summary

This is an audio enhanced version - with music and sound effects - of a book long hailed as one of the great science fiction classics, H.G. Wells' The Island of Doctor Moreau. It tells the story of Edward Prendick, a shipwreck survivor who is brought to an uncharted island where he encounters Doctor Moreau, a mad scientist bent on experimenting with human/animal hybrids.

Described by Wells himself as "an exercise in youthful blasphemy," this story is a disturbing and fascinating look into the moral responsibility of scientific experimentation, the ethics of meddling with the natural world and, ultimately, what it means to be human.

An Excellent Rendition of a Horror Classic

The narrator, Kevin Theis, gives a great performance in this rendition of a classic horror story. Through Kevin Theis' performance Edward’s confusion, horror and resulting fear from his experience really come through making listening this audio book an exciting experience.

Okay but not Wells’ best

This classic uses a structure similar to many other books from that time- starts with a narrator explaining aspects of the story after it has happened before going back in time to narrate the actual story. It takes a while to actually make it to the island, but once there, the story is interesting. There is a lot to think about - ethics in science, human nature, are morals universal or dependent on situation, etc. It’s an okay sci-fi horror story that is a little light on the sci-fi and the horror elements.

Creepy

The story is already compelling. The narrator adds character and emotion. You’ll feel the terror and isolation.

Classic Story Brought to Life

I love H.G. Wells, and this is one of his most contemporarily relevant and terrifying stories.

Kevin Theis does an excellent job bringing this story to life with engaging and clear narration, acting, and music and sound effects that make it easy to imagine the setting and events.

A great rendition of a sci-fi classic that presents very interesting philosophical questions about science that have inspired a lot of other horror and sci-fi.
