When the call came it seemed like the answer to my prayers. My career as a voice actor had been over for months and me and my little girl Scarlet were living back at my mum’s place. I felt like a failure professionally—and with Scarlet having problems at school, as a parent as well. So, when I was asked to narrate a new book by disappeared novelist Philippa Roberts I jumped at the chance, even if it meant leaving Scarlet with my ex, Hugo, for a few weeks. Hugo, with his perfect new home and his perfect new girlfriend Saskia. But this isn’t a dream come true. It’s a nightmare.

It was 1970 in a defeated Rhode Island fishing town. Vietnam and Nixon dominated the national news. Both the near and distant future looked bleak. But they were five inseparable high school friends with something incredible in common: an unwavering resolve to look after each other no matter what hell life threw at them. And they were on a mission. The plan was simple: Go off the grid before they turned 18 to avoid the draft. They’d sell some grass, stack some cash, then head west and start a commune. What could possibly go wrong?

Thoroughly Engaging
Patterson is clearly an exceptional writer. He knows all the tricks of the trade. So if you're already a fan, this short will be yet another one of your most prized possessions.
The very fact that we have the likes of Sanaa Lathan in the cast is only an added bonus. Her acting chops make the role she portrays THAT much more compelling. So give this a listen, you won't be sorry.

I was NOT ready!!!
First, this was my very first book branching out of my usual romance genre. Since reading the blurb of this book, I knew I had to listen to it. This was so FREAKING GOOD. I felt so spoiled listening to this being a multi-cast, and the sound effects had me so enraptured in the story. This was my first suspense, thriller but it won't be my last, especially by James Patterson.

Not sure
This audiobook or audio play would be better served as a book. The size of the cast makes attribution difficult at times. I am unsure of radio plays, although I have listened to others and enjoyed them more than this. I think this one would be better served as a book.
