About this listen

"This gripping audiobook, narrated ably by Scott Brick, focuses on the chilling premise that both candidates for chancellor of Germany are Hitler's children.... Brick's delivery is superb, bringing to the mic his ability to create unique voices - in this case, characters with distinctive accents from Germany, South America, and elsewhere. As the story unfolds, so, too, does Brick's intensity - right up to the audiobook's explosive conclusion." (AudioFile Magazine, Earphones Award winner)

This program includes an author's note read by Steve Berry.

In New York Times best seller Steve Berry’s latest Cotton Malone adventure, a secret dossier from a World War II-era Soviet spy comes to light containing information that, if proven true, would not only rewrite history - it could impact Germany's upcoming national elections and forever alter the political landscape of Europe.

Two candidates are vying to become Chancellor of Germany. One is a patriot having served for the past 16 years, the other a usurper, stoking the flames of nationalistic hate. Both harbor secrets, but only one knows the truth about the other. They are on a collision course, all turning on the events of one fateful day - April 30, 1945 - and what happened deep beneath Berlin in the Fürherbunker. Did Adolph Hitler and Eva Braun die there? Did Martin Bormann, Hitler’s close confidant, manage to escape? And, even more important, where did billions in Nazi wealth disappear to in the waning days of World War II? The answers to these questions will determine who becomes the next Chancellor of Germany.

From the mysterious Chilean lake district, to the dangerous mesas of South Africa, and finally into the secret vaults of Switzerland, former-Justice Department agent Cotton Malone discovers the truth about the fates of Hitler, Braun, and Bormann. Revelations that could not only transform Europe, but finally expose a mystery known as the Kaiser’s web.

Great book, pronunciation could be better.

There is no "sh" sound in the word Reichstag (he pronounces it ReiSHtag) what's up with that.
Also the German "CH" is mispronounced, giving me the heebeejeebees. Please, if you read German or any other language, learn to pronounce it properly.

Ending Surprised Me

I truly enjoy Steve Berry books. I was surprised by the Chancellor decision at the end. Her life was TOTALLY different from her father's and I believe the German people would've forgiven her.

Good historical fiction

I’ve always liked the way the author wrote on historical mysteries where it’s not 100% clear on what the truth is. He presents a fictional case that can seem plausible and make it into a good story.

In this book it is far ranging delving into what possibly happened to some of the Nazis after World War II. It takes you to various countries in Europe, South America and Africa. And, it includes Cotton Malone, what’s not to like? It was a fun listen!

Great story telling by the author, and a great narrator. Just hope they make a Cotton Malone TV show one day.

Another Steve Berry Historical Twist

Enjoyed! Great historical fiction. only negative was too preachy and repetitive on political beliefs for the characters and the mentality of people.

Cotton’s best adventure!

I’ve listened to all of Steve Berry’s books and all of the Cotton Malone adventures in order and this one is the best by far. It may not be based around a long lost ancient library or long dead religious order, but that doesn’t matter. The Kaiser’s Web it eerily similar to what’s going on in America today; and the Kaiser himself, is an obvious reflection of a certain Republican President that shall remain nameless. This was a great book. It checked all the marks. Nazis, globe trotting adventure, mystery, twists, turns, highs, lows. The Kaiser’s web is simply a great adventure!

Cotton Malone vs Nazis

This book was foreshadowed by The Devil's Gold, the novella from a couple years earlier. While not required to enjoy this book, it does help flesh out some of the events mentioned here. Cotton and Cassiopeia are asked to look into what appears to be a blackmail attempt against the chancellor of Germany as her reelection quickly approaches. Her opponent appears to be trying to paint her with ties to the Nazis of World War 2. The trail leads from the Baltic states, to Germany, South America, South Africa, Switzerland, Austria and finally back to Germany. It lays out an intriguing puzzle that has far more reality than one might think. The events of the story are a reflection of today's news stories. I found the book engrossing, frightening, and fast paced.

I recommend it to fans of the Cotton Malone universe, history buffs, and pretty much anyone else.
