About this listen

Terra stands upon the brink of Unity. The armies of the self-proclaimed Emperor of Mankind have waged their bloody wars to bring the whole planet under his rule, crushing all traces of outlawed religion and worship from the face of this now secular utopia.

But even the mighty Thunder Warriors cannot cow Uriah Olathaire, last priest of the Church of the Lightning Stone, as he goes about his empty, hollow rituals - and only one last and thoroughly unexpected visitor can bring any hope of a possible reconciliation.

Great insight to the mind of the Emperor...

This title was a great insight to the Emperor's purpose. The final unification of Terra before beginning the Great Crusade.

One of the best

The best Warhammer short story I’ve read/heard so far. Takes you back to the beginning of it all. Highly recommended.

Thought-provoking and magnificent

Graham McNeill is proving to be one of the best the Black Library has to offer. I absolutely loved the way he set the scene of the confrontation of this war of words between the priest of The Last Church on Terra and the mysterious stranger who calls upon him.

As an atheist, I can’t help but identify with The Emperor’s views of religion and will admit to a certain relish at the idea of its eradication. However, McNeill perfectly captures the sinister and apocalyptic undertones inherent in the desire to follow such a being. The complexity of the Emperor’s character snd motivations are captured wonderfully here, as well as the intriguing contradictions of his quest to illuminate humanity with rationality, pursued with the zeal and conviction of a man on a Great Crusade. All of this of course perfectly captured by the excellent Jonathan Keeble.

Don’t miss this one, it was a treat.

10/10

Fantastic listen. The narrating was great and it was really nice getting a long form conversation with the emperor.

A good Criticism of the Emperor

A debate between an old Christian priest and the God Emperor of Mankind...you decide who wins.

Unbelievable

Phenomenal performance.
Incredible writing. Feels like a work of classic literature, not pulpy sci fi. How Graham McNeil's prose paints an atmosphere is amazing.

Good book, awful interface.

I have nothing to say about the book insomuch as I have to say about my ability to play it. When I clicked to download my copy of the audio book, Audible shoves its garbage MP3 downloading software down my throat instead of just giving me an MP3, and what's worse is the piece of shovelware doesn't even work, I gave it all the necessary information to link it to my account & nothing. Good, now I'm forced to play it from my browser. At least when I buy music from Amazon they give me the option of a direct MP3 download when they're shoving their garbage media player your throat.

The book would've been certainly worth the money I paid for it if the service weren't broken & worthless.
