About this listen

New York Times best-selling author Bertrice Small concludes her acclaimed saga of Rosamund Bolton and her daughters with this tale of passion, intrigue, and seduction, set against the glorious backdrop of King Henry's court....

Elizabeth Meredith, the youngest daughter of Rosamund Bolton, is nothing like her sensible sisters. Impatient with fancy manners, the young beauty has shunned the royal court in favor of a quiet life at Friarsgate. But to protect the future of the land she loves, she must venture into the court of King Henry VIII to find a suitable husband.

Elizabeth soon scandalizes the court by forging a friendship with Anne Boleyn and by flirting with Flynn Stewart, bastard brother to King James V of Scotland. But her fate lies back at Friarsgate - as she has always known - where a weakness for Scots sends her into the strong arms of Baen MacColl. Yet Elizabeth's greatest passion is for her lands; and Baen's loyalties may lie elsewhere. Can they overcome the barriers threatening to separate them? And can Elizabeth, by following her heart, still protect Friarsgate?

Contains mature themes.

My favorite of the series

This book is about Elizabeth, the youngest daughter of Rosamund and is the heiress of Friarsgate. She is made heiress after her irritating sister Philippa renounces the inheritance. It is time for her to marry but she has no real interest in doing so. She is taken to court by Lord Cambridge (as he taken all three of Rosamund's daughters to court to find husbands). She does not find love at court but finds love with Highlander Baen McColl. I enjoyed listening to this one and I would have to say Elizabeth is my favorite of the three daughters. She is bold, outspoken but kind and loving. She is stubborn as well which made for some interesting dialogue between the H and h.
Anne Boylen loses her head at the end of this book and it was very interesting how Ms. Small dealt with her as a character. I think readers would like the creative stance she took with her character.

This is the third book in this series and i would like to end the review with how much I appreciated Tom's role in this series. i believe the listener will agree with me when I say, his character enhanced this series tremendously. He was generous, kind and supportive. He was always available when needed and made many sacrifices to see to happiness of them all. It i I laughed out loud so many times when he would start or end a pithy comment with "my dear girl/boy"

The narrator's voice was just grating but not so much you could not finish the story.

This book is credit worthy in my opinion.

Told a romantic tale but also a story of history.

It was a good book! I always enjoy the strong female characters that Ms same writes of in her books!

the narrator did the voices expertly

this story was wonderful - interesting and the narrator did an excellent job with the downy accents and voices. it was full of history, romance and personality. I highly recommend this book.

I have this book in print too!

This is a really good story. I read it years ago and was stoked to see it available as an audio book. The narrator is a bit off for me, she has sort of a high pitched voice that seemed off for the story. But the story is still great and worth the listen!
