Publisher's summary

From the bestselling author of Hidden Pictures comes a breathtaking work of suspense about a father trying to save his daughter from a life-altering decision that will put everything he loves on the line.

Frank Szatowski is shocked when his daughter, Maggie, calls him for the first time in three years. He was convinced that their estrangement would become permanent. He’s even more surprised when she invites him to her upcoming wedding in New Hampshire. Frank is ecstatic, and determined to finally make things right.

He arrives to find that the wedding is at a private estate—very secluded, very luxurious, very much out of his league. It seems that Maggie failed to mention that she’s marrying Aidan Gardner, the son of a famous tech billionaire. Feeling desperately out of place, Frank focuses on reconnecting with Maggie and getting to know her new family. But it’s difficult: Aidan is withdrawn and evasive; Maggie doesn’t seem to have time for him; and he finds that the locals are disturbingly hostile to the Gardners. Frank needs to know more about this family his daughter is marrying into, but if he pushes too hard, he could lose Maggie forever.

An edge-of-your-seat thriller that delves deep into the heart of one family, The Last One at the Wedding is a work of brilliant suspense from a true modern master.

The beginning and the middle

📖 Book Review 📖
The Last One at the Wedding by Jason Rekulak

I listened to this on audio 🎧 non-stop. Binged it like a season of FRIENDS in 2 days. And not just because the story captivated me but because @john.pirhalla narrated this gem and his voice is just amazing!
Idk if I would’ve titled this book what the author did, bc to me, it doesn’t seem like it fits just right.
This is about the best dad in the world, Frank, a UPS driver of 26 years, accident free in all that time, and his daughter, Maggie. Maggie gets into some scrapes and seems like the opposite of Frank but she’s getting married and invites her dad to the wedding. This is where Frank starts unraveling the truth and lies and we begin to see what all Maggie has gotten herself into.
Like I said, it’s a riveting tale and I was about to give this story a full 5 ⭐️ until I got to the very end. This is where I felt like: 1. The ending was very rushed and 2. The ending did not come to a sufficient close as I thought. It’s definitely over but I feel like I don’t have any closure and that saddens me. Therefore, I’ll give this 4 ⭐️ instead. The ending I’ll rate 1 ⭐️ 😂

Well written and well performed

I truly enjoyed this book. It was very well written and the fabulous narrator really brought the story and characters to life. Not every author can pull off a story with such an ambitious plot, but the meticulous writing and well developed main character really brought it home. And I thought the Abigail subplot delivered some genuine warmth and charm to the story. A fun listen, I highly recommend!

So Good - Relentless Pace

Really liked the concept of this book. So much deception, who to believe? How far is the reach and consequences related to it? The pace is fabulously relentless. One thing after another, no time to wonder who is duplicitous. Character development is really well done. Twists definitely have their shocking moments. Frank is a relatable hero, father, brother, who is probably honest to a fault with this crowd!! Such a great listen. Really enjoyed it.

Narration was good. I vacillated between the narrator being the perfect voice for speaking Frank but not really for inner dialogue and other characters voices.

Good story

A good listen, a little long, but worth a listen. The characters are interesting, but a some are a little annoying.

mid-way review, not impressed yet....

So far this book is really strange. It doesn't feel true to the characters and the story. It starts off with a three year estrangement Between a daughter and a father. They reconnect over the the daughters upcoming marriage. But then the next ten chapters just rambles on and on about the fathers neediness to spend every second with tbe daughter. It just doesn't seem like true behavior after a three year separation. The story doesn't seem to be building very quickly, or with much substance. I will keep going at this point, And maybe edit my review later.
This father is really annoying and needy.

Liked it!

I’m digging this author. This is the second book that I’ve read and I really enjoyed it. I like the setting I like the camp vibe. He has a nice way of making you feel like you were in the story and completely aware of your surroundings. I like the twist and turns I hope you pump out a few more books soon….
