Publisher's summary

Following her forced departure from Fourline, Natalie Barns has been aching to rejoin the struggle to overthrow its evil dictator. With Soris and those she left behind constantly on her mind, Nat bides her time, determined to find a cure for the duozi - those infected by the terrifying Nala.

An unexpected discovery propels her back to those she has sworn to protect, but her reappearance in Fourline is anything but straightforward, particularly when familiar faces appear when least expected. Despite the warnings of her friends and the looming threat of the vengeful Nala queen, Nat joins the fight in Fourline, both in her mind as well as on the field of battle. Her decisions may salvage Fourline's future but at the risk of her own horrifying fate.

Nice twist to an old storyline.

What did you love best about The Last Remnant?

The different dimension existing right outside of the other.

What other book might you compare The Last Remnant to and why?

A little like Muirwood with a little bit of Lord of the Rings; passing through the barrier to two worlds and finding intelligent creatures living among men. But I don't think I have read a book that would really compare with this particular story.

What does Lauren Ezzo bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Very good narration, she rates up there with Kate Rudd in my liking. I will often times read books based on who is narrating it as well as the story, usually finding that a good performance artist will chose similarly good material to perform; most of the time.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, the story line was not as captivating as some I have read, but still good enough that I wanted to read the entire series.

Any additional comments?

Just a good story, fun to read and listen to, good plot twist and unexpected twist and turns. The ending was a bit predictable, but I don't want to put any spoilers in my review. I would recommend the series to those who like adventure, fantasy and people who grow into their strengths.

so much yes!

Great narration, story, & entertainment. I had trouble going to sleep each night, because i couldn't stop listening. I found this to be exciting all the way through, with pretty much no boring parts. Adventurous and suspenseful.

Immature Heroine

Only in fiction would and individual like Natalie survive. The relationships developed through most of the three books where contrived and the resolution by "a cure", of the creatures does not follow any scientific methodology. especially in a makeshift lab. blood samples holding active bacteria 6 months is a major stretch. In addition assuming the Fourline inhabitants(sisters) had any sense they would have come across a cure long before this character did. Overall amusing so I finished the trio of books.

Enjoyable

Young adult fantasy. While the first book in series was intriguing, I thought the characters became very one dimensional in this last book of series. I was hoping for more complexity in interactions and motives. More greys but I did enjoy

A Satisfactory Conclusion, almost!

Though mystery fans might have seen the end coming a ways off I was sad to discover this was the end. I think the author should write additional novels in this setting and there are vast opportunities here for the royal family of Fourline to import selected technologies to their world. Technology ultimately is just knowledge put to use and the skilled tradespeople of Fourline could easily build indoor plumbing, solar water heaters and a whole array of other devices to make life for everyone in Fourline better. It seems like Fourline is an isolated civilization on a lightly explored world. With his experiences on our earth Estos and those who have traveled with him in both worlds should now realize the world of Fourline is likely very much larger than their single kingdom geographically. There is a whole world to explore! Time for more novels! Like its predecessors the audible version fit seamlessly with the kindle version allowing easy switching between text and audio at need.

*spoiler

I just can't get past Nat taking Cal along with her in Fourline when the portal was right there. the author should have found a way for Cal to come along that made more since. An example would be that when Cal crossed, there's Nala and they must run and fight them off. By the time they are safe, they are too far from the membrane to turn back.
I don't understand why the author felt Cal needed to cross into Fourline, except to be a major pain to all the other characters, but if she really wanted Cal to be there, she should have found a better way to write it.

Pretty good

It's a great story with a good performance. I only wish the female characters weren't so whiney and immature. the main character and her sister are always complaining. The universe created by this author is pretty cool though.
