Crime fiction master Raymond Chandler's sixth novel featuring Philip Marlowe, the "quintessential urban private eye" (Los Angeles Times).

In noir master Raymond Chandler's The Long Goodbye, Philip Marlowe befriends a down on his luck war veteran with the scars to prove it. Critic reviews

"Raymond Chandler is a master." (The New York Times)

“[T]he prose rises to heights of unselfconscious eloquence, and we realize with a jolt of excitement that we are in the presence of not a mere action tale teller, but a stylist, a writer with a vision.” (Joyce Carol Oates, The New York Review of Books)

“[Chandler] wrote as if pain hurt and life mattered.” (The New Yorker)

Stellar on all counts

Chandler writes a first read story with plenty for Philip Marlowe to do. Scott brick does a wonderful job, keeping the characters alive and the rhythm of the story moving along nicely. Highly recommended!

Interesting, a little dated

Some dated racial references, probably to be expected from that era. Pacing somewhat inconsistent. Good style.

A mixed bag

The story had a great beginning and ending, but the middle was a slog. The narrator at first felt corny, but his voice was right for the story. He did a good job.

excellent story excellent reading

some of the best narration I have heard on an audiobook. it's amazing that one narrator can do a better job than a whole cast

Noir 1954 Classic Delivered Flawlessly

Two for One Credit sale is great when Scott Brick narrates both classics from this author. So glad this story was purchased from the estate and recorded for us listening fans. If you are a movie buff and are familiar with this author, then as a fan you will purchase when this wonderful opportunity comes up again.
I did not read any of this author’s work, i only watched the films that were made so hearing Mr Brick narrate, was a treat and I got to hear rather than watch this good classic.
Were my comments of help?

Wonderful Story

My favorite Raymond Chandler book. The narration is very good, but Ray Porter is Phillip Marlowe for me.

Classic noir

First rate writing. First rate narration. Chandler is one of the greatest American writers in the company with Hemingway, Hammett, Faulkner, Gaddis etc

Don’t pass this up.

WOW

Definitely a long goodbye. Great story. This book goes through many twists and turns but pulls it all together in the end.

Tour de Force

Perhaps the best Marlowe book out of all of them - tons of delicious twists and turns.
