Story
The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Anyone sensible knew that the Ickabog was just a myth to scare children into behaving. But the funny thing about myths is that sometimes they take on a life of their own.

Sweet and magical.
This was a sweet magical story, the likes of The Chrnicles of Narnia, by CS Lewis in all its magical grandeur. Jill Mills did a great job with narration and there was just this special magical air about it that really pulled you in. It was short, but sweet like Christmas candy, and just the lightness that I needed during this time. I was given this audiobook for free in exchange for an honest review, and there it is. I would be curious to see more by Mr Stewart Fridd. The style was like biting into that savory piece of chocolate or snuggling up by a warm fire on Christmas night. Good stuff for sure. I can't wait to see, and hear more. Happy reading yall. Enjoy.

Short and Sweet
I was given this audiobook for free in exchange for an honest review.
Really surprised with how much I enjoyed this short story. Gill Mills was excellent as a narrator, but might have been a little mature sounding for the ages of the characters. The grandeur and magical elements were beautifully crafted into the story, and helped keep my attention throughout. It was the perfect combination of character driven plot and mysterious tension. Really cool; I look forward to reading more from Fryd!

More a ya book in my opinion
This is the first book I have read/listened to by this author. I do not think I would list it as a general children’s story, but it would be appropriate for 12 (maybe 10 depending on the maturity of the child) since the ending could be disturbing to some.
The story surrounds the children at an orphanage that seems to be set in something similar to the early 1800s London. There is black magic, and helpful magical animals and gifts entangled in a bit of a mystery.
This is the first book I have listened to by this narrator ( Gill Mills ) and I think she did very well narrating this book. The voices for the children and adults were well done. She imparts quite a bit of expression into her narration that is appropriate and not at all over the top. I would have loved this book when I was 10.
There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence, or swearing.

Short but good
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I really liked this book. The main character Lydia was sweet and well thought out as a character. It was an interesting book and I loved that it was short enough to listen to in an afternoon. The narrator was good and was able to nail the characters

Monster or Witch
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
This was an intriguing mystery. Girls going missing, and because they are from an orphanage no one really cares except for the girls that live there. Every girl is afraid for her own life including Lydia. But with some help and determination to save her sister Lydia works to destroy the haunting memory of so long ago.
This was not something I would normally read, but I’m glad I did. Its a very good mystery. And even though it’s a short book there is still plenty of details.
