This is the tale of an exciting journey along the Silk Road with a young Monk and his newfound guardian, Samir, a larger than life character and the so-called "Seller of Dreams". The man is a scammer; his biggest skill being the ability to talk his way into getting what he wants. While that talking did save Monkey's life, it has left a lot of people furious with Samir— furious enough to hire assassins. Monkey decides to try and save Samir from the attempts on his life—as a way to pay off his debt! If he can save Samir six times, he'll be a free man...but will they all survive that long?

For fans of The Little Prince and Salman Rushdie's Haroun and the Sea of Stories.

Danial Nayeri has written - and read - a story with action, adventure, developing relationships and insight into those relationships that is easy and comfortable and uplifting.

A good tale

An enjoyable listen. Listening to Nayeri is like listening to a good story-teller who knows the characters and loves the story. Different from listening to a polished actor. Sweet tale of the relationship between a 12 year old orphan and the crafty merchant who rescues him. Non-stop adventure and plot twists. Reminds me of an Indiana Jones film. Don’t skip the historical context notes at the end.

A thrilling story that kept me on my toes until the end. Nayeri lead me into worlds unknown and for that I applaud him. The seeking and the travels reminded me of one of my favorite books, The Alchemist; but it is it’s own story with vague reminders of the place and time.

Clever, fun, fast-moving, but still substantive. Maybe a little underbaked. Great restrained and slightly coy narration by author.

Read by the author, it’s a great story. Would recommend for middle grades through adult. Lots of action, and tender thought-provoking moments as well.

I love the book. A rip-roaring tale that asks the reader to engage, read between the lines, and grow into enduring truths. And—just fun!

Never a dull moment

Daniel has a unique, or at least a far less common, store of story telling. I don't necessarily connect with the characters' experiences, but I can not wait to see how their story unfolds. His first book was surprisingly good, so I couldn't wait for this one to come out. I was not disappointed.

After the first chapter this book had me struggling, struggling to put it down! The authors tale told through the voice of Omar, or monkey is one that made feel like I was just another merchant in their caravan. it made me wish the characters were real and left me sad that they aren't in the end, or maybe they are.
