About this listen

The start of a new gripping family saga series from Liverpool's very own bestselling author, Sheila Riley.

Everyone needs a good samaritan, especially on Christmas Eve...

Liverpool Docks, 1910

Ruby Swift is a hard-working, straight-talking woman of substance who does not suffer fools gladly.

But when tragedy strikes on a bitter Christmas Eve, Ruby and her beloved husband Archie take matters into their own hands when a trusted employee’s house is mysteriously engulfed by flames and lives are lost.

Orphaned by the fire, Ruby welcomes heartbroken sixteen-year-old Anna Cassidy, into her home but is unable to save Anna's twelve-year-old brother Sam, who is sent by the Church to Canada as a Homeboy.

Can Ruby help mend a broken heart and can these two children ever be reunited or is there another higher game in play?

Mersey Mistress takes you on a journey to another time, another place. From the banks of the River Mersey to the frozen waters of the Canadian Saint Laurence River.

Perfect for fans of Chrissie Walsh, Katie Flynn and Dilly Court.

Ends Unresolved

An OK story, but it ends abruptly and doesn’t tie any of the story’s threads. Lots of tragedy, a bit unrealistic.

Very good listen

Every character in this book has kept my attention. I’m excited for more. I also extremely liked the dictation of the narrative.

3.5 stars because it Ends abruptly.

Felt like this story has a good building up and then missing an ending. I didn’t like that, but story itself is good. Story reads like a Hallmark movie. Narrator’s Canadian voice sounded like a Southern accent, a little strange. But I do appreciate the changes in accents for illustration & narrator’s efforts for dramatic effect.

Just ok

this book is ok not great with lots of repetitive writing the author is a bit over the top with all the tragedies but with no real emotions, the characters are lacking and uninterested the narrator was ok when she's in character

Extremely disappointing

It feels like this book was written to a recipe.
Repetitive, simplistic, and drawn-out.
It reads as if the author was writing for a target audience of imbeciles.
Nothing like her earlier books.
