About this listen
Life on the moon is not all it’s cut out to be. Temperatures both day and night are deadly and unbearable. There are few places to hide from the blistering heat and the freezing cold. However, two people are determined to make it work, despite the danger and difficulty that challenges their dreams. Annie Taylor, a law student, came to the moon to harvest Helium 3, a precious element that not only solved the energy crisis, but also prevented World War III.
Trapped on the moon during a Helium storm, she is saved by Clint Baker and taken to his family’s ranch, started by Tex and Dolly Baker, who simply wanted to create a bit of their Dallas, Texas, home on the strange and airless moon. Although Annie must return to Earth to solve her sister’s murder, she follows the murderer when he escapes to the Moon. Once there, her life becomes a complicated series of events involving power, control, and law. Appointed lieutenant governor of the moon, she must arrange a world where the land is not under control and the people are free to live out their hopes.
Already being lauded by listeners as being “about science, not fantasy”, The Moon Is Not for Sale is an exciting science-fiction ride to the moon and back and will capture listeners’ imaginations from the first chapter to the last.

Fantastic Performance
Once again, Michel Young shows his expertise in narrating a story.
In "The Moon is Not for Sale", Young successfully brings A LOT of characters to life. They span from all corners of the globe and the moon as he tackles the different accents masterfully. As I'm a fan of his narration, I may be a little biased (especially since he narrated a book of mine), but he won't disappoint in keeping you entertained with the narration and also helping you to easily identify each character as they speak. All around, a great job, and a 5-Star performance.
Where "The Moon is Not for Sale" falters is in the writing. While stories of colonizing the moon now span generations, the story was intriguing enough for me to want to understand what about the moon is "not for sale". And the story did succeed in helping me understand that.
However, it is filled with a lot of exposition, a lot of conversations that happen in narration and a lot of scientific information that deviates from the story, sometimes making it feel more like a non-fiction book than fiction. A result of this and the plethora of characters is I never really formed a caring attachment to them or the story. And the story becomes very passive rather than engrossing as a result. That's not to say you won't enjoy the audiobook, as some enjoy that sort of thing. Personally, I like my stories with mostly meat and very little fat.
For me, the performance is what makes this book stand out more than anything. If you're a fan of Michel Young or excellent audiobook readers in general, then I would highly suggest you give this one a listen.
