About this listen

You can never truly know what goes on behind closed doors....

My darling son, Sam, is marrying his childhood sweetheart, and I couldn’t be prouder of the man he’s grown into. Walking out on his abusive father all those years ago was the best thing I ever did. And today he stands, tall and handsome, saying "I do" to my dream daughter-in-law. If I hadn’t pushed them together all those years ago, he might never have found a girl as perfect as Lauren. It’s true what they say, mother always knows best.

But weeks later, Lauren is dead and police cars fill the driveway of their idyllic countryside home. As they question Sam, I sense he’s hiding something. Why won’t he look me in the eye? And who does he rush off to meet as soon as the police are gone?

Desperate, I do what every good mother would do: I let myself into Sam and Lauren’s bedroom. What I see, I will never be able to forget. My son’s beautiful new wife was hiding a dangerous secret. Can I clear my son’s name? And could my life be in danger now too?

A completely gripping, utterly twisted thriller that will leave your jaw on the floor. Perfect for fans of Gone Girl, The Wife Between Us, and The Woman in the Window.

Finally, a good book!

I’ve been through or attempted to go through so many duds lately, even though this isn’t the most original, it’s my kind of read. It’s an easy read with not too many characters and the story is linear. Which, makes it easy to follow and the dynamic between the families is interesting.
Lauren and Sam meet in nursery school their families staying close being good friends through the years. The two get married then 3 months after a perfect wedding Lauren is dead.
The rest of the book is a whodunit with the police arresting Sam right off the bat.
It grabbed me from the first chapter. I recommended it.

GREAT BOOK

Very entertaining total 5 stars. One may not like most of the characters but it definitely was an entertaining mystery and to me that is what it is all about.

Solid

Sue Watson rarely disappoints. The narrator was excellent as well. Very twisty at the end.

The New Wife

Loved this book. It’s the first Sue Watson book I’ve listened to but it won’t be the last. Yes, the main character is naive & too trusting, but that didn't take away from the overall story because it was so good. There were great & unexpected twists. The narrator was excellent. I could listen to her all day. I highly recommend this book. I’m now a Sue Watson fan.

Entirely too predictable

This story was OK but nothing to write home about. It really did not have anything that I wasn't already expecting.

I listened to all of it but …

It’ was ok but dragged on a bit and the main character was shallow and a bit vapid

Narrator and Story Are Nailed Beautifully

I have been a fan of Watson’s for some time now. This particular story had some amazing twists. Straight on one character gives the reader focus as the murderer BUT if you listen carefully another comes into play.

The narrator is also excellent for her voice is melodic and soothing.

I definitely recommend this one for psychological thriller/mystery lovers and as a YA crossover.
