About this listen

Olivia Kaspen has just discovered that her ex-boyfriend Caleb Drake has lost his memory. With an already lousy reputation for taking advantage of situations, Olivia must decide how far she is willing to go to get Caleb back.

Wrestling to keep her true identity and their sordid past under wraps, Olivia's greatest obstacle is Caleb's wicked new girlfriend Leah Smith. It is a race to the finish as these two vipers engage in a vicious tug of war to possess a man who no longer remembers them. But, soon enough Olivia must face the consequences of her lies, and in the process discover that sometimes love falls short of redemption.

Definitely worth 5 stars

Olivia Kaspian doesn’t understand how to love, till she meets Caleb Drake, but she is afraid to commit. No matter how hard Caleb try’s to get Olivia to show her feelings she continually backs away. Caleb finally calls her bluff, he has her back but a still reluctant Olivia won’t give him her heart and he finally gives up and moves on to Leah his second choice, Leah seizes her opportunity and move in with a crushing blow to both Olivia and Caleb.
This is a love to hate or hate to love story, either way Andi Arndt does a fab job narrating.
You have to read or listen, make your own decision, love Caleb hate Olivia or hate Caleb love Olivia.
Did they belong together in the first place or did they get cheated out of their happiness?

One of my favorite books ever!

If you could sum up The Opportunist in three words, what would they be?

Unique, Emotional, Angst

What other book might you compare The Opportunist to and why?

Not possible - The Opportunist is in a league of its own.

Have you listened to any of Andi Arndt’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was my first time listening to Andi and it started the love affair I have with her. She does a great job and has a wonderful voice.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

“You can only give your heart away once, after that, everything else will chase your first love” - Olivia Caspen

Any additional comments?

The Opportunist is beyond words for me - the writing is flawless and I have never felt this kind of angst before and everything about this book completely exceeded any and all of my expectations.

Another excellent Andi Arndt performance!

Well, this is certainly not your average love story! I bounce back and forth between being saddened by the heroine's actions and getting drawn in and awed by her raw honesty. All around fantastic!

Loved It!

I loved the story of Caleb and Olivia. It kept me on my seat wanting to see what was going to happen next between these two. It was frustrating at times but I was always rooting for Caleb and Olivia to find each other again for good. Well written, enjoyed the narration too. Not my preferred ending but 2 more books so I’ll keep my fingers crossed. I recommend the love story of Caleb and Olivia.

Great book, clever writing...why the bad reviews?

I would classify this as romance and a *bit* of a psychological thriller. Thriller not necessarily as in murder, but there are some twists. It’s definitely a romance although it’s not corny. I generally don’t like romance but I like the Tarryn Fisher and her edgy writing style. This book is the first in a series and I’ve read all 3. I would advise starting here as you really need to understand the dynamics of the main 3 players. These books are written with humor, a bit of biting sarcasm and some genuine warmth. They don’t take themselves too seriously , so I would say they are light, easy reads.
Like all twisty stories there are some coincidences and far fetched plot devices...but they didn’t ruin the overall narrative. If you’re in the mood for a different take on romance, tired of domestic thrillers that are marketed as the next ‘Gone Girl” but never actually are...try something different. You won’t be able to say these are just like most books out there. They are refreshingly different.
There’s an antagonist that you’ll love to hate, a protagonist that you’ll want to yell at but still root for, and you’ll be turning pages just to see what they do next. I’m easily bored with a short attention span so a book needs to grab me or it will lose me. Boring is the worst thing a book can be as far as I’m concerned. I simply cannot finish a book that bores me or requires me to concentrate. I’m a multi-task reader and I don’t like convoluted , overly descriptive dialogue and metaphors....don’t even get me started! Lol. “Red” who is conniving is my favorite character...and she’s the bad girl. Really enjoyed the 2nd in the series but all 3 are so good I read them twice.
As I said my jaded self enjoyed this trilogy immensely after a run of bad “domestic thrillers” with “girl” “girlfriend”and “Lie”in the title. The narration was perfect too. Give it a chance, IMO. 💯💯💯
I personally do not get the bad reviews. Even by the pickiest standards it’s mediocre this saying it’s the “worst book ever” I feel didn’t read it....I can’t believe anyone would hate the book that much so I think some ppl are just spiteful. I’ve read hundreds...HUNDREDS of books and this is a good, entertaining book well worth the credit.
Note:: I read the really BAD REVIEWS and I want to rebutt them....I think some ppl don’t like the author and the bad reviews are because they disagree with their politics ...which is completely unfair. It’s not fair to the author and it’s dishonest to other readers. This country is so divided book reviews can’t just be a review of the writing and story? sigh. What a pity. That’s where we are. I would advise taking those bad reviews with a grain of salt. They’re most likely political agenda driven. The way you can tell if they actually read the book is how vague the review is, how hostile the review is , and again, read the subtext of the review. Are there any plot details? Then it’s a fake review.

After listening to all 3 books

This book is not as well written as the other 2 but it definitely sets the scene for this convoluted tale. Nonetheless, I got caught up anyway. Basically, this book was annoying and all over the place with no one to root for. However, things changed my opinion of just this with the second book. So I conclude that this is a series worth listening to and not so typical as most romance series.........

The Opportunist

Wow. I wasn’t expecting the range of emotions I felt from this book. Tarryn Fisher took my heart for a wild ride. To say I could empathize with Olivia is an understatement. I felt like I was living her life. I couldn’t wait to get back to her and find out what she would do next!
Olivia Kaspen is out at a music store when she runs into her ex, Caleb Drake. He is ‘the one,’ the love of her life. She had broken his heart and stomped on it. She wasn’t expecting to see him again, but when she did, all those old feelings came rushing back. When he sees her, he doesn’t recognize her. She finds out he has amnesia. She may have a chance to get him back into her life.
Of course, his current girlfriend (barf bag, witch), Leah Smith, will not allow that. She makes it pretty clear right away that he isn’t going to be taken away from her greedy grip. I cannot express the dislike I have for Leah enough. I’m so glad this is a series.
The transitions between present and past were seamless. I also really enjoyed the narration by Andi Arndt. She knew how to make each character unique. I highly recommend this one!
