Publisher's summary

The author of The Pocket Wife explores the dark side of love, marriage, and infidelity in this sizzling novel of psychological suspense.

Everybody's luck runs out. This time it could be theirs....

It isn't safe. That's what Joe tells her when he ends their affair - moments before their car skids off an icy road in a blinding snowstorm and hits a tree. Desperate to keep her life intact - her job, her husband, and her precious daughter, Lily - Dorrie will do everything she can to protect herself, even if it means walking away from the wreckage.

Dorrie has always been a good actress, pretending to be someone else: the dutiful daughter, the satisfied wife, the woman who can handle anything. Now she's going to put on the most challenging performance of her life. But details about the accident leave her feeling uneasy and afraid. Why didn't Joe's airbag work? Why was his car door open before the EMTs arrived? And now suddenly someone is calling her from her dead lover's burner phone....

Joe's death has left his wife in freefall as well. Karen knew Joe was cheating - she found some suspicious emails and followed him that fateful night, witnessing the fatal crash. Trying to cope with grief is devastating enough without the constant fear that has overtaken her - this feeling she can't shake that someone is watching her. And with Joe gone and the kids grown, she's vulnerable...and on her own.

Insurance investigator Maggie Devlin is suspicious of the latest claim that's landed on her desk - a man dying on an icy road shortly after buying a lucrative life insurance policy. Maggie doesn't believe in coincidences. The former cop knows that things - and people - are never what they seem to be.

As the fates of these three women become more tightly entwined, layers of lies and deception begin to peel away, pushing them dangerously to the edge...closer to each other...to a terrifying truth...to a shocking end.

Narrator is terrible at a male voice. So distracting that it totally ruins the book.

At first I thought the male voice the narrator was speaking belonged to a character who was supposed to be mentally challenged. But as it went, I realized she narrated every male voice in that monotone disjointed cadence. Awful!
The story is ok, nothing better than ok. Predictable. Actually, the ending has me still thinking that there is still an unidentified culprit still in the wind, free.
I can't recommend this, and I'm sorry I used a credit on it.

Good Mystery

I enjoyed the fast-paced mystery and interesting characters. Although I had my suspicions, the story line kept me guessing; I was only partly right and there was a twist I didn't expect. There were several characters whose lives intertwined, and I thought the shifting perspectives were well done. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading more by this author. The narration also kept the story moving at a good pace.

Gaping parts

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

The story carried the suspense line consistently through the story, but dragged it out in other parts.some story lines were left undeveloped, leaving reader to wonder about them. Once the killer was identified, motive was not well articulated

Long and Boring

Everything could have happened in 2 chapters. Didn't care about a single character. Just Awful!

Good, not great

Is there anything you would change about this book?

This is a fairly good book from beginning to end, but falls into the "take it or leave it" category. I can see this becoming one of those made for TV movies, though.

Should have used 3 narrators

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This book had potential BUT there were too many characters involved and I found myself having to write down the names and who they were in order to follow the book. The narrator did a great job and I really liked her voice, however, the three main characters were all female and were all voiced by the same person. I kept having to rewind to figure out which character's chapter she was reading. As far as the book itself, I kept asking myself "Are we going to get to the point anytime soon?" Dragged on too much for me and not enough suspense or mystery really. I could of listened to the first chapter and the last 30 minutes and that would have been all I needed. Feel like the middle was just page filler.Anyways, not the best book I've listened to but also not the worst! Would recommend to other Audible members but it's not a "keep you up all night in suspense can't turn it off" kind of book.

Kind of soap opera. Tired of reading about infidelity. I liked the character Maggie Brennan.

Doesn't live up to the hype

What did you like best about The Other Widow? What did you like least?

I didn't care about the characters. There was too much switching between the characters and bringing in back stories that didn't add to the main storyline.

Would you recommend The Other Widow to your friends? Why or why not?

I would not recommend this to anyone.

What didn’t you like about Madeleine Maby’s performance?

The narrator had terrible voices for the male characters. They sounded like robots and spoke very slowly. She would have done better by just reading them in her regular voice.

Enjoyed this book. It's a fast read. Lots of characters to keep track of, but flowed well.
