About this listen
Threadbare has been kidnapped by pirates!
But this is just the first step in the plan of the malevolent and mysterious puppeteer who's manipulated the pirates into bear-nappery. Which was supposed to be a proper princess kidnapping, but things went a bit sideways.
To uncover this strange mastermind's plan and properly thwart it, Threadbare must play along, keep his friends alive while they attempt to rescue him, make new friends, and help the old ones during this dangerous journey to parts unknown, all to confront the deadly and devious beastkin known only as the Phantom of the Lop Ear…

Chase Berrymore dreams of adventure, excitement, and getting the heck out of her pastoral halven village. But when adventure finds her, she'll be scrambling to save her family and friends from a necromancer's wrath. Outmatched in almost every way, she'll have to use her wits, charisma, and a bit of divine favor to figure out the path to victory. Even worse, she'll have to figure out ways to deal with the weird and nigh-immortal beings that call themselves "playas"...and she'll have to do it with the most powerful weapon she has available: words.

Richard Royal has a hard life. He lives in a corrupt, church-controlled dystopia, his family is soon broken, and the only joy to be had comes from the escapism of his full-immersion gaming. Introduced to a new and very illegal game, he finds himself in the body of a dragon, on a quest to find a dark and evil power to serve. But the game is more than it seems, and the dragon is more than a beast. Soon Rich's life is far, far more complicated than he ever expected. A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

Jin Rou wanted to be a cultivator. A man powerful enough to defy the heavens. A master of martial arts. A lord of spiritual power. Unfortunately for him, he died, and now I’m stuck in his body. Arrogant Masters? Heavenly Tribulations? All that violence and bloodshed? Yeah, no thanks. I’m getting out of here. Farm life sounds pretty great. Tilling a field by hand is fun when you’ve got the strength of ten men—though maybe I shouldn’t have fed those Spirit Herbs to my pet rooster.

Featured Article: Level up with 25+ awesome litRPGs
LitRPG means Literary Role Playing Game. Simply put, it’s the book version of watching someone play a video game, usually one that’s set up like an MMO (massively multiplayer online) RPG. It’s a blend of sci-fi and fantasy, depending on how it comes to be that our main character ends up living inside a virtual reality. the point of LitRPG is not how we get there, but that we get to be in this virtual reality period, living life as a badass video-game character. Beat the grind and submerse yourself in these addictive LitRPGs.

Not my favorite, but still great
I got book 1 on sale and have been working my way through the other books in the Threadbare series as I can. This is a great series, but if you don't like less serious, lighter, and a less hurried story pace, you might not like this series. I think it's great. I read it between my apocalyptic series, star sagas, and other intense stories and I find it cleanses my mind’s palette.
I was curious what others were saying about the series and I ran across some reviews with complaints about political wokeness. The ??questionable?? passage was a single 10 second portion where one of the characters were discovered to be transgender and Threadbare basically said it's not my business nor does it bother me, you do you. An author takes from their own experiences and the world around them for inspiration and to call it political or WOKE because an author lightly touched on an issue that is so prevalent is “Stuff & Nonsense.” I seriously would expect animal-human hybrids to “sew” more outcry and to get people up into “arms” than a quick blurb recognizing that people are different and it's okay. If you are offended by animal-human hybrids with “Bunny Feets”, a 10 second blurb acknowledging a single transgender character, or one of the many “phantom” things that someone could work themselves up over, you should probably avoid this book and any other work not found on the Florida schools approved reading list. And yes, I did work portions of the first 6 book titles into my above comment. :D

Serious threads
the main character in this series sees a pretty distinct change in their outlook due to what happens in the book. it was a good choice by the author, and an organic change for the character.

Funny and entertaining
Enjoyed this series muuuch more than any of the others ive listened to by this author. The plots engaging with well developed, lovable characters and tons of meta humor throughout. I found it pretty funny, depends on your sense of humor i guess but i felt he did great in that aspect of the book. In this one we follow threadbear posing as Celia and get to know his bunny captors a bit and find out more about this "lop ear" character. Theres a few characters that were reintroduced from the "blasphemy" series preparing for the inevitable combination of this cast and that one but i was a little disappointed he didnt lean into that side of the story more. The next book isnt long enough to fit all the explanations he left out of the ending of that series as well as wrapping up this one ( trust me i know, I've already finished it). I feel like he couldve spent more time doling out pieces of the puzzle so our beloved teddy could start putting them together into a semblance of a picture. There were some minor things in this book tying it together with blasphemy but i felt like there was entirely too little..

I really enjoyed the real issues raised in a light hearted way. The puns were exceptionally dad quality! I thought it may have been a teen or child’s book series at one point, it handles adult themes quite well.

My favourite series still great!
I’ve read a lot of litrpg, and this series continues to hit home-runs in terms of premise, world building AND interesting characters, with a heavy dose of Puns. And Tim Gerard Reynolds is perfect for the series. I’m glad he’s stuck around since the first book.
