About this listen

From award-winning suspense author Brandon Massey comes a new, thrilling novel of buried secrets and stunning revelations.

Lost...

Twenty-five years ago, a jealous ex-boyfriend murdered Mallory Steele's mother. With no close family to take in Mallory and her older sister, the girls became wards of the state and were soon ripped apart, sent to live with different foster families.

Then found...

Taken in by loving parents, Mallory went on to a successful career as an investigative reporter at an Atlanta newspaper. She hasn’t been able to find her sister despite her best efforts - until she discovers a promising connection on a genealogical website.

Hoping for a reunion, Mallory sets off for the small town in rural Georgia where she believes her sister lives.

But nothing will ever be the same...

There, at Sanctuary, an old antebellum mansion deep in the murky backwoods, Mallory discovers her sister’s new family: a reclusive clan led by a secretive man known only as “Father”.

Skeptical of Father's revelation about her sister, Mallory plunges into the most important investigation of her life, but to unravel the mystery of her sister's fate and the terrible secrets lurking in Sanctuary, Mallory must decide: Is finding the truth always worth the price?

OK read

The story was interesting with an unforseen plot twist at the end but I did not care for Mallory, the main character. It was hard for me to finish the book because I got so tired of her actions which often just seemed stupid. I'm glad I finished the book because the reveal at the end was worth it even though Mallory was on my last nerve.

Mid-range Creepiness Factor

Book club read. Interesting story with some weird twists. I found the narrator, William Wells, to be quite a talent! Some of his voices were hilarious at certain points.

Adequate

It’s not my favorite of his books but it was good enough to finish. I wasn’t a fan of the narration either.

Fun wacky ride

There were definitely a couple of moments I screamed at the characters’ stupidity. When the make choices that don’t make any sense it takes you out of it for a minute. And there are moments where Brandon Amadeus Writing get a little overwrought, mechanical. Trigger warning for sexual abuse. But overall this was a fun, fast moving wacky thriller with a couple of surprises and I also really enjoyed Mallory and Ben as a couple. The characters were well drawn. I feel like I would have preferred a female narrator for a female protagonist but the narration was actually so good with all of the voices I let that go. Each character had a distinct way of speaking and it made the story come alive.

Enjoyed

I have always been a fan of Brandon Massey and was not disappointed with the book. I finished listening to it in two days. The only thing that I didn’t care for was the narrator when he had to speak for the women, they all sounded the same and sometimes I got confused with who was speaking. Other than that I recommend this book.
