About this listen

After years of war, Army Ranger Quinn Colson returns home to the rugged, rough hill country of Northeast Mississippi to find his native Tibbehah County overrun with corruption, decay, meth runners, and violence. His uncle, the longtime county sheriff, is dead. A suicide, he’s told, but others - like tomboy Deputy Lillie Virgil - whisper murder.

In the days that follow, it’s up to Colson to discover the truth, not only about his uncle, but about his family, his friends, his town, and himself. And once it’s discovered, there’s no going back for this real hero of the Deep South.

Not a Bad Start

I thought the story was decent, but also the military character coming back to his hometown to help seek justice has been overly done.

Excellent listen

A damn fine start to this series. Narrator was first rate and the writing had just the right blend of crisply plotted storyline and enough iterary description to paint a fine Southern tale.

Great start to a new series

This was a good first book and a great introduction to Quinn Colson however, sometimes the editing seemed a little jarring, moving from one place to another without any explanation, but we will see how it goes in the next installment.

Everything you want in a military vigilante hometown hero. This book rules. Can’t wait to start the second.

Surprisingly good narrator

I was skeptical about this book. I have returned books narrated by this reader before. But I gotta say, this girl from Louisiana thought that the narrator did a pretty good job of sounding southern. And you could tell the difference between the characters. Story was good too.! Love me some Boone (or Boom)

Takes you on an adventure.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author. I enjoyed the adventure and look forward to reading the next book in this series. The characters were vivid, which made the story feel factual and believable. The narrator was an excellent choice. His personality was perfect for the adventure, atmosphere and location. I felt as if I was right there watching events unfold . The story started out intriguing, then the tension begins to builds and the personalities begin to intensify. I’m looking forward to the next book by Ace Atkins.

Predictable but a good start to a series?

McLeod Andrew’s does an amazing job with this story. The story could use a bit more depth but the characters are well drawn leaving the reader wanting more.
