Publisher's summary

Port Royal, Jamaica 1692

Living in a city deemed the wickedest in the world is no easy task for Miss Juliana Dutton. To make matters worse, with an ailing father and a drunken fool for a brother, she is forced to take over the running of the family business in order to survive. When a nosey suitor threatens everything, she spurns him and instead becomes engaged to the town idiot, Lord Munthrope. But is he an idiot? The more her problems push her closer to the man, the more she realizes he is not who he seems.

Alexander Hyde, the Pirate Earl, is the most feared pirate in the Caribbean - feared, successful, wealthy, handsome, and bored, so terribly bored. When an unexpected event allows him to get close to Juliana, a woman he has loved from afar for years, he takes it. But leading a double life causes more problems than it's worth. A restless crew and a long-time enemy out to capture and hang Alex, put Juliana in grave danger.

As tremors rock the city of Port Royal, Juliana's faith in God is equally shaken. Not only have things gotten worse, but she is confused by her feelings for both Munthrope and the Pirate Earl. Deception, intrigue, mutiny, death, betrayal, all attempt to tear the lovers apart. But the final blow comes when a massive earthquake strikes the city and threatens to sink it into the sea.

Original and Fun!

Where does The Ransom rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Definitely one of my favorites!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Juliana was my favorite character, with Alex a second favorite.

I loved how caring Juliana was and how hard she worked to help others, keep things running for her family, etc. She did sometimes make bad decisions that put her in danger, but that is where some of my favorite moments with Alex came in as he worked to protect her in one way or the other.

Which scene was your favorite?

Without giving a spoiler, I'll just say that the "big reveal" was my favorite part, along with some of the scenes that took place just after that.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, however, I spread it out and listened to it mostly on commutes and during a few evenings.

Any additional comments?

This book comes before The Reckoning, but I read it after The Reckoning. I loved both books, but I liked the voice of Rowan better in The Reckoning than in The Ransom. However, seeing as how Rowan is a very exasperating person in The Ransom, his voice does make sense.

loved it

Any additional comments?

If you like Tyndall's other books you'll love this one. I haven't read any of the other books in this series and don't think it mattered.

Fantastic twists

I wasn’t sure I wanted to read this one after enjoying the first three books. But the author has outdone herself with this one! Combining the Scarlet Pimpernel with pirates, and including not easily seen twists, this is a must read!! Also, I loved the fact that she used the history of Port Royal to give a very ending.

Inspirational Pirate Romance - YES!

I love pirates, and clean, engaging historical romance stories. This is a perfect blend! I read this a few years ago, and recently downloaded it on audible. This book kept my imagination busy and happy while I mowed the lawn, cleaned the kitchen and caught up on laundry. I've never enjoyed housework so much :)

Great Plot Showcasing Amazing Grace

Christian Pirates? Yes! And it works. It's fun, captivating, entertaining and redeeming. MaryLu Tyndall created Christian characters we know in life, dropped them into the pirate world and showed how God works all things for our good when Satan tries to destroy--even for a pirate. The Narrator gives an excellent performance of all voices.

Juliana Dutton strives to do enough good works to secure the answers to her prayers for her failing father a drunken brother, the family shipping business and an orphanage full of children. But her answers are not necessarily God's answers. When a nosey suitor threatens everything, she spurns him and pretends engagement to the town idiot, Lord Munthrope.

Munthrope (Alexander Hyde, the Pirate Earl in disguise) is the most feared pirate in the Caribbean - feared, successful, wealthy, handsome, and bored, falls in love with Juliana. Alex's flight from God and his own perceived failure finds him rich in wealth but bankrupt spiritually. Left facing death with no help from God, the couple finds God's ransom for their soul and His plans for them is timed perfectly. If you like the swashbuckler story and like stories that show real people in and out of a real relationship with God, you will love The Ransom.

Marylu Tyndall at Her Best

Any additional comments?

Ms. Tyndall holds back none of her special brand of storytelling. This is a swashbuckling tale sure to please those of us who love the batboy hero, and then the story is far more. It is a journey of the heart and the soul, uplifting and satisfying.
