Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author, S.L. Scott, brings a unique twist to the rock-star genre along with a soul-searing romance.

I got over Jaymes Grenier no problem. I never think about that little bow at the top of her pink lips, or the way her green eyes admired mine. Nope, I barely recall the way she fit so perfectly in my arms when I held her at night. The sweet way she would whisper she loved me has long faded from memory.

These are the lies I regularly tell myself in hopes of believing them one day. Yeah, I was told I'd get over my first love.

I didn't.

Derrick Masters marked me the moment we met back in ninth grade. He called me over - all bravado and bad boy mystery wrapped in a James Dean-esque package. Dark hair, blue eyes and a rebel without a cause charisma. He was everything I was warned about, but I couldn't resist. I was his from that moment on.

His career took off almost as soon as he did. I knew it would. I just thought I would be by his side as his partner in crime, best friend, and forever.

These days, I don't have the luxury of letting my head live in the lure of La La Land. His dreams may have come true, but mine were extinguished. It's not just about me anymore, but something bigger, better than we were ever meant to be.

Derrick's dreams come crashing back into my reality, making me wonder if this is our second chance at a fairy tale ending or another heartbreak in the making?

Good story.

The author writes good story that moves quickly and never loses interest, without the over-the-top drama to which many authors succumb. Interesting hero and heroine, and for once the reasons for miscommunication (always needed to foment drama) were believable. The hero and the villain were actually gang members, on their way to perdition, until they cross paths with the heroine. This story is mostly told from a much later period, and their origin story is only revealed in short flashbacks. That origin story deserves more attention, particularly the great betrayal that sets the course of the tragic outcome. Also, the villain is shortshrifted as well; his journey down the path to hell was at least as interesting as the hero's path away from hell. All in all, a good book that deserves to be given greater depth and lots more pages!

The narrators did a fine, professional job. Kudos to Mr. York for infusing emotion into this performance; when he's read a bit flatly from previous books. This time I quite enjoyed listening.

Derrick and Jaymes are officially my FAVOURITE couple in the series!

5 STARS

I am in awe of S.L. Scott and her ability to write rockstar romance. The angst and suspense combined with a powerful love story is everything I crave when I start one of her books. The writing is thrilling, gripping and keeps the reader addicted to the storyline and characters. The Rebellion was all of this and more. Derrick and Jaymes are officially my FAVOURITE couple in the series! Jaymes has endured a lot. She is fierce, loves and protects her son and never stopped loving Derrick. She is resilient and a true FIGHTER. She has come through some really tough times. Derrick is the lead guitarist and singer in the band The Resistance. He is not a perfect man and not without his flaws but he is irresistible, swoony and oh so sexy. He loves Jaymes with so much intensity. Reading this book took me on such an emotional journey I never wanted it to end. This is one of my top favourite second chance love stories of all time.

I adored the narration done by Sebastian York and Ava Erickson. The emotion and power in their voices were spot on and bring so much realness to these characters.

Couldn’t get into it

The story drug a bit at first, then seemed rushed 3/4 of the way through. The whole thing was really predictable. The main character behaves in a way that make no sense, making it very difficult to connect or be sympathetic when the obvious consequences of actions come to pass.
This author’s habit of writing passively in random places is distracting. Eg. “My shoulder was touched” rather than, “He touched my shoulder”. The author even does this during intimate scenes, making it seem for a moment that a third person is unexpectedly present! 😂
Still, I do enjoy many of this author’s books. This one just missed the mark for me.
