Publisher's summary

Psychedelics are in vogue again. No longer are they promoted solely by hippies and cultural outsiders. The potential benefits of LSD, mushrooms, and ayahuasca are now being touted by major cultural influencers, tech titans, and academia. It seems a matter of time before our laws loosen and the use of these drugs becomes mainstream. But why were they illegal in the first place? What are the potential downsides? Why has Western civilization historically viewed these drugs with such suspicion?

The answers to these questions are shocking and unexpected. This book outlines the science, philosophy, and theology behind psychedelic drugs and how they have historically affected individuals and societies. It is a wild story with many unexpected twists and turns. It will interest everyone with even a passing interest in the use of psychedelics.

Great book. Not so great reading.

The amount of mispronouncing was off putting. Mostly related to different words found in the Bible.

A compelling thesis, well worth consideration.

'For those with eyes to see and ears to hear' this book will give pause especially to those of us given to hedonic pursuit. Though I would have enjoyed further examples of the Serpent cult in the ancient world and today it is evident that we're all still doing the Luciferian twist, the dance craze twisting beauty into ugliness, truth into lies. A solid, albeit brief, summary of a meta truth visible to those of us fooled before.

Really interesting book

Well researched and willing to challenge the zeitgeist of our times, this is a courageous, objective and well researched book. Hope this sets up a trend of well researched books being written by laymen for laymen.

Awesome recap of the use of psychedelics in human history

This was such a cool read, honestly the podcast Haunted Cosmos sent me here - and I am so glad to have listened to it! It’s wildly interesting seeing the red thread commonality of use of psychedelic drugs as part of a religious ceremony, and the common imagery and consequent worshipful practices that came along with it. Wildly interesting, too, from a Christian’s perspective: if we understand the goal of the darkness is to sway, mutilate, and destroy human life, it all makes perfect sense. This is a really well written book if you like history, ancient mythologies and a scientific approach to understanding it all. 🤍

Shocking Way Drugs&Religion Shape People&Societies

The answers to these questions are shocking and unexpected. This book outlines the science, philosophy, and theology behind psychedelics drugs and how they have historically affected individuals and societies. The findings are surprising and fascinating.

Note: Another review on this page wrongly claims the other stated that cordyceps was a psychedelic. He did not. He used it as an analogy. The book includes detailed citations so that readers can trust the facts and conclusions.

Great study on an interesting topic.

Really enjoyed the content of this book. My only quibble is that the narrator either didn't research the pronunciation of several words or that it was AI. Kind of took me out of the study at points.

Enlightening

Very clear explanation for how we got here as a society and the danger of continuing down a dark path. We must go back and understand what our ancestors knew.

Truth

10/10. It is both enlightening and terrifying but needs to be heard. Once you start listening you won’t be able to stop.

Certain places cutout mid-sentence.

Not sure if it’s just my download or all of them, but certain chapters have issues with the narrator being cut off mid-sentence. Chapter 3 ended as he was in the middle of making a point and didn’t even finish the word he was saying.
