About this listen

Book 3 in the Nightstalkers series.

Ever since the first Rift opened in Area 51 in 1947, exposing the world to deadly beings of pure energy, only the Nightstalkers have stood between humanity and complete annihilation. But as the decades have gone by, whatever power controls the Rifts seems to be getting smarter, as if refining an ultimate plan… An old ally alerts the Nightstalkers to a resurgence of Rifts in Tennessee, near one of the team’s first major skirmishes with the seemingly inexhaustible threat. Though still licking their wounds from their latest mission, the Nightstalkers know there’s no one else remotely prepared to battle these intrusions into our world. And this time, they’re intent on closing down the Rifts once and for all. But to do so, they’ll have to finally face the truth behind the Rifts’ origins.

They say that those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.

But what if the past has already doomed us all?

The Rift is the explosive next episode that started with Nightstalkers and The Book of Truths from New York Times bestselling author Bob Mayer.

I’ll continue listening to this series

This was a nice wrap up of the Rifts storyline. I just wish it was a little bit longer.

Another great story in my favorite sequel

As in all the Bob Mayer books the details and historical fact is outstanding. The twist and subtle development of his plots while building the levels of suspense are unique to all books and listens I have heard so far.
Eric Dove narration is that touch of something that make this and Mayer's other stories among my favorite.

This is the last of Bob Mayer's books for me.

I picked up the three books in this series in a package. The first book was good. I had some theme issues with the second, but it was overall okay. Book three tanks the whole series.
Someone convinced this author he needed a twist ending, or he decided to do it on his own.
And sucked at it.
The twist is completely unsupported by the preceding events. The twist also requires a bunch of apparently unrelated events, and ties them together, but the author never actually shows you what ties them together. It is so convoluted that the author tries to hang a lantern on it in the epilogue and that only serves to make it seem more stupid.
That's it. I'm out.
