Acerca de esta escucha

In this riveting new novel by the New York Times best-selling author of the Chet and Bernie mystery series, a deeply damaged female soldier home from the war in Afghanistan becomes obsessed with finding a missing girl, gains an unlikely ally in a stray dog, and encounters new perils beyond the combat zone.

LeAnne Hogan went to Afghanistan as a rising star in the military and came back a much lesser person, mentally and physically. Now missing an eye and with half her face badly scarred, she can barely remember the disastrous desert operation that almost killed her. She is confused, angry, and suspects the fault is hers, even though nobody will come out and say it.

Shattered by one last blow - the sudden death of her hospital roommate, Marci - LeAnne finds herself on a fateful drive across the country, reflecting on her past and seeing no future. Her native land is now unfamiliar, recast in shadow by her one good eye, her damaged psyche, her weakened body. Arriving in the rain-soaked small town in Washington State that Marci had called home, she makes a troubling discovery: Marci's eight-year-old daughter has vanished. When a stray dog - a powerful, dark, unreadable creature, no one's idea of a pet - seems to adopt LeAnne, a surprising connection is formed, and something shifts inside her. As she becomes obsessed with finding Marci's daughter, LeAnne and her inscrutable canine companion are drawn into danger as dark and menacing as her last Afghan mission. This time she has a strange but loyal fellow traveler protecting her blind side.

Enthralling, suspenseful, and psychologically nuanced, The Right Side introduces one of the most unforgettable protagonists in modern fiction: isolated, broken, disillusioned, yet still seeking redemption and purpose - LeAnne takes hold of the listener and never lets go.

It takes a while to get going, but you need the background/memories.
I think this will be an excellent series. The main character has a lot of flaws, but is honest and realizes she is broken. The dog is a great character as well. Lots of potential.
Susan Bennett does an excellent job.

Looking forward to the next book.

Great, like all Spencer Quinn’s books. But my favorites are the Chet and Bernie stories, told from the dog’s perspective. Just the best!

If you are looking for a book about a dog and his person, you can skip the first half of the book. It's a good book anyway. The story is well written and the characters well defined. Not a lot of excitement. And it could have been shorter.

A bit slow

Being a fan of Mr. Quinn’s Chet and Bernie series, I wanted to give this book a try. It’s very different from that series but I soon became quite intent on finishing this book. The storyline is more than a little darker than the aforementioned series but interesting as well. There’s a lot to grasp here concerning this former Mideast soldier suffering from PTSD and disfigurement during her last assignment. As she struggles against the demons raging inside her, she finally begins to find some semblance of peace within that starts with a stray dog who accepts and protects her regardless of what comes her way.

Terrific turn of the pen by wonderful Spencer Quinn. In this book he leaves Chet and Bernie and Bowser and Birdie behind for a look into the psyche of LeAnne, a war veteran severely injured in Afghanistan, and Goody, the dog who comes unexpectedly into her life to help get her on the path to healing her mind, body, heart and soul. And as only Spencer Quinn can do, their stories and adventures together are riveting.

How A Dog’s Love Can Heal A Human Heart

Sgt. Leanne Hogan is a hero. So is her new partner Goodie. Imperfect, sure. A little damaged? Yes. Yet she fights for right while trying to heal. I am so hoping this is only the beginning.

very well written with a nicely crafted plot line. And if that weren't enough great character development and heartwarming. well worth the time.

absolutely loved it! you should read it!

Spencer Quinn brought new characters to appreciate. I'm a fan of the "Chet" stories so I wasn't sure how a Spencer Quinn novel would stand up without him. My verdict: quite well. It was a winding tale but, in the end, satisfying.

Missed Chet, but . . .

I, like many others may have bought this book to keep up with the author, while we wait for the next Chet and Bernie story.
I wanted to see what the author could do with a meatier, and darker story line, since the last Bernie book was very sombre in the end.
He jumped in with both feet on this one, so no problem there, but I was concerned about the dog in this story, until I realized that this was Chet, seen from the outside. The dog was practically psychic. It took a while, but it smoothed over.
I was surprised as to the grittiness of the story, and could see this as easily a one-off or a series.

I'm hoping for a series myself.

A good foray into a more mature human/dog story

I didn't love it nor did I hate it. The main character was so prickly it was hard to find anything endearing. Makes you appreciate all the military does and what they have been through.

It was just okay
