About this listen

A millennium into the future two advances have altered the course of human history: the colonization of the Galaxy and the creation of the positronic brain. Isaac Asimov's Robot novels chronicle the unlikely partnership between a New York City detective and a humanoid robot who must learn to work together.

Detective Elijah Baiey is called to the Spacer world Aurora to solve a bizarre case of roboticide. The prime suspect is a gifted roboticist who had the means, the motive, and the opportunity to commit the crime. There's only one catch: Baley and his positronic partner, R. Daneel Olivaw, must prove the man innocent. For in a case of political intrigue and love between woman and robot gone tragically wrong, there's more at stake than simple justice. This time Baley's career, his life, and Earth's right to pioneer the Galaxy lie in the delicate balance.

What listeners say about The Robots of Dawn

Highly rated for:

The Reviews Highlight Isaac Asimov's Skill In Crafting An Intricate And Thought-provoking Mystery Set In A Futuristic World Of Robots And Advanced Societies. While The Clever Plot Twists And The Exploration Of Robotics Laws Are Widely Praised, Some Criticize The Weak Character Development, Awkward Romantic Elements, And Occasional Unnecessary Details That Slow Down The Narrative. The Story Connects To Asimov's Larger Universe, Delving Into Philosophical Questions While Laying The Groundwork For Future Novels. Despite Some Dated Aspects Of The Writing, The Compelling Storyline And Unexpected Turns Keep Readers Engaged Until The Satisfying Conclusion.

Asimov Experimentation

I started reading Asimov with his Foundation series, then backtracked to the Robots series when Foundation started discussing robots. The first few Robots books are much shorter, and the ideas much more fleshed out. Parts of Robots of Dawn seem like a means to get from the last book to the next, explaining how we get there but without a strong story to support it. Other elements seem experimental — there is much mention of sex in this book as compared to the others. Despite this, the author had minimal concern with the character’s infidelity. Because of this, and unlike the other books, I wouldn’t want my children to read it until they are old enough to talk about sex and understand the examples good and bad as presented in this book.

Good read

Very interesting conclusion to series. Builds on previous books and develops the main characters. Read the series in order.

Loved it again

This is a favorite of mine and audio is fabulous. I want my grandchildren to enjoy these stories so they will keep Asimov's robots alive.

Timeless classic!

Great story. Much better characterizations than the first two novels of this series. The female characters are still incredibly two-dimensional and wackadoo, unfortunately, but you can see Asimov getting a little bit better at writing female characters.

A wonderful classic, well narrated

A well written Asimov classic, very well narrated. I read this book as a child but this was wonderful to relive.

My best experience on Audible yet.

Exceptional performance of classic SciFi

William Dufris’ superb performance of this, and the two prior novels in Asimov’s “Robot Trilogy”, was an absolute delight. Crisp and clear, realistically dramatic, Dufris’ voice brings to life the characters of Elijah Bailey, R. Daniel and R. Giskard in a way that adds depth and richness to this classic story.

Classic Asimov!!

The conclusion to the Robot Series that ties in the Foundation series by providing the backdrop discussion on Earth and Robots. Well percormed. listened for hours at a time.

A study of the walls we build.

I love this series of books. R Daneel Oliva is still one of my very favorite characters of all time. I also love Giskard and the other characters in the story.
I have read this book many times over many years, and I still enjoy it greatly. The story is compelling even if you only read it at a surface level. But I think its true genius is in the contrasting of internal and external walls that people and societies build to limit themselves.
Asimov will always remain one of my most favorite authors.

Perfect reading of a classic scifi story

One of my go-to science-fiction authors and books. I would give mr. Dufris 6 stars for his performance, if it were possible. A great pleasure to listen to, will certainly revisiting this classic many times .
