I have been in listening to this series with such joy at finally finding another author that I can look forward to! I am sure I am not the only one who tries book after book after book in search of someone who is worth finishing an entire book let alone continuing on through their bibliography. Now I must go start the next book because I can't wait to see what happens to these delicious characters.😁

I was apprehensive to start this series with a new to me narrator. Now this is one of my favorite series and Noah has become one of my top favorite narrators.

This story is complex and delightful. Phil Tucker is an amazing author! Highly recommend the whole series!

So Amazing

Once again, we have delved even deeper into the same set of POV characters and I'm loving it.

As always, the only thing keeping Noah Michael Levine's performance from being five stars is the assortment of words he pronounces so strangely (I hesitate to say he's saying them wrong, but it definitely doesn't sound right to me).

As has been the way with this series, this book picked up right where Black Shriving left off and it is almost immediately clear why this book is so much longer than the others in the series.

In this story, the plot expands, the personal goings on with the characters expands, we're seeing new facets of characters, and being introduced to wholly new places with all new organizations and nuances.

As has been my experience with this series thus far, the minor grammar problems (mainly with passive voice, some clunky sentences, and excessive telling rather than showing) are the only things preventing this story from earning five stars. It isn't bad enough to completely pull me out of the story, but it is an annoyance that hinders my total immersion in the books.

Now, there are some truly awesome things going on in this story. There are several major twists (one of which, involving Asho, didn't end up going anywhere near the direction I expected!), some of which forced me to reevaluate a number of things I thought were established. And while I'm not sure it was meant to be as hilarious as I found it, there are a couple of subplots with Ottsley that had me rolling!

As I've mentioned in previous reviews, there are quite a few parallels between these books and George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, and not at all in a bad way.

I really love the way things are coming together with the major conflicts, and yes, Ferrick is still my favorite character. I have to admit, though, that Tyron and Kethe and starting to challenge that!

As always, in this book Phil Tucker gives us a gradual building of climaxes as we climb our way to the end of the book.

There are a number of mini heart attacks along the way as characters fall into disasters and are forced to summon the reserves to dig their way back out of them.

As I've come to expect, the final climax at the end does not disappoint. There are so many awesome things going on and so many shocking reveals, it's hard to really do them justice in a non-spoiler review.

Now matter how much I always expect otherwise, everything is nicely tied together and closed off for the ending, but in such a way that I can't wait to dive into the next book!

It's a good thing I already have it and can jump right in.

I was blown away by this book. The stakes are so high, and everything feels so momentous. I found myself shouting out loud several times in reaction to what was happening.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have read the books in this series and was very excited to see they finally had come out with the audio version. However, I had to turn the series off as the narration was just plain bad. The narrator remained monotone the whole time and seemed to be hating life while reading. He was making me dislike a series I have very much enjoyed reading. I highly recommend the series but skip the narrated version and just read the books.
