Publisher's summary

The Havath Dominion is marching to war.

Humiliated in the ruins of Imperial Ithos, with the Exile Splinter stolen from their grasp by the ancient sphinx Kanderon Crux, Havath's Duarchs have assembled an army that dwarfs the entire population of Skyhold. Led by their Great Powers, monsters and mages individually capable of leveling a city, they pose a threat that even Kanderon, one of the mightiest of Great Powers, and her equally monstrous allies might be unable to stop.

As the Havathi forces push closer and closer to Skyhold, Hugh and his friends train relentlessly, hoping to make a difference in the oncoming siege. While they venture into dangerous realms of untested experimental magic, though, they're already caught up in currents far beyond their control.

Once you're a pawn in the games of the Great Powers, there's no escape.

Let multiple Audie Award-winning voice artist Ralph Lister take you further into the saga of Hugh of Emblin: Don't miss the fifth installment of this epic coming-of-age fantasy.

Why did it have to end like that?

I enjoyed a series and love the characters. I however he tell the book and. I suppose I might come back after I finish morning to read it again. I hate the way this book ended even more than I hated the way book 7 of Harry Potter and dad. Still, I love the main characters, especially Hugh and Tallia. This book explores adventure, love, betrayal, power and, humility and And and greed. I look forward to reading the rest of the books in the multi-verse and hope is that the author will tell us more about what happens to Hugh and his friends after this adventure. Hey I also appreciate how issues of human sexuality and sexual orientation are explored but not in any kind of nauseating detail.

slow at times, but worth it!!

I took a chance on the first 2 books as they were offered free by audible at that time. A great decision on my part! the world building gets more in depth as the story progresses along with the characters and situations they find themselves in. The power/magic structure is somewhat lacking but still holds up. I cannot wait for the next book!

A Great Ride

This novel was great; an excellent continuation of the overarching narrative and a well written emotional piece Ralph Lister's narration was amazing, as usual. I especially liked how well he could pull off Hugh's damaged lungs/throat.

The whole story was an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish and well worth the trip. While the battles and fights in the previous novels were done well, this kicked everything up several notches. Especially, seeing the Siege from different perspectives really emphasized the scale of the assault.

I cannot wait for book 6. My hat is off to John Bierce. It's rare for me to applaud someone's excellent work while simultaneously wanting to violently shake them for hurting my poor Godrick.

Leaves me angerly waiting for more!

The book and performance were phenomenal. the only reason for 4 stars was the last twist left a bitter taste in my mouth. Regardless of my emotions right now, I am excited for more and a resolution for my current inner termoil.

Good listen

I believe the listener will enjoy this story. The battle scenes are so intense, and the character interaction is so well done. Lastly, I would say to the listeners the loss of characters will be difficult to read.
