Before the battle of the SandWing queens; before the prophecy and the dragonets sent to save Pyrrhia from endless war; a long, long time ago...evil was born. In alternating chapters this Wings of Fire special edition takes listeners back to the very beginning, when powerful, mythical dragons Clearsight, Fathom, and Darkstalker - the most dangerous dragon of all - were just dragonets. When the future was bright and uncertain, when no one had been betrayed or had their heart broken.

Story
In a warren of crumbling buildings and desperate people called the Old City, there stands a hospital with cinderblock walls that echo the screams of the poor souls inside. In the hospital, there is a woman. Her hair, once blond, hangs in tangles down her back. She doesn't remember why she's in such a terrible place. Just a tea party long ago, and long ears, and blood.

In the first chapter of this epic trilogy, the outcome of the historic War of the Ancients is forever altered by the arrival of three time-lost heroes: Krasus, the dragon mage whose great power and memories of the ancient conflict have inexplicably diminished; the human wizard Rhonin, whose thoughts are divided between his family and the seductive source of his now-growing power; and Broxigar, a weathered orc veteran who seeks a glorious death in combat.

disappointed in being disappointed.
Sadly, I just couldn't connect with this book. Normally I'm excited to see the ammount of lore and back history that this story provides, but it came off very drawn-out and more like slow preaching of gospels and religious like scripture. Now im not bashing on faith and religion, its just the times they frequently hault the story to get into past lore, it felt more like i was listening to a bible rarher than getting any world building or description. As such, dialog and exposition just blurs together and ends up keeping me from immersing myself into the story.
I hold a soft spot in my heart for wolves and and have always been a fan of talking animal tales. As such I was quite excited to find this book, sadly it had been sitting in my "to-read" shelf for a few years as I worked my way through other books and just life in general. so when I saw it in audible I just had to pick it up.
I really wanted to like this book, if not love it, at least like it.

First Favorite Book
I fondly remember reading this in 2008 in middle school, I promptly devoured all the Clement-Davies books I could find. I remember in 2009 getting "Fell" as a Christmas gift, and buying "Fire Bringer" soon after.
While the writing is good I understand that it's written for young adults and after re-listening to this audiobook I see how people who are listening to it now as adults and aren't biased towards it due to childhood memories may be disappointed with it.
The narration is good, Steven Crossley does a good job with character voices and doesn't speak in monotone.
The story is a bit slow to start and is obviously inspired by Richard Adam's work but not executed as well as "Watership Down" was, though it is very similar so if you enjoyed that book you will enjoy this one. My only complaint as an adult listening to this is that the flow seems to be a little off, where in Richard Adam's "Watership Down" the animal's theology, termonology and mythos were established in the opening prologue, David Clement-Davies's pack theology, and termonology are mentioned in a sentence then promptly explained thereafter, though if i remember correctly there is a glossary at the beginning of the novel if you are reading it in print with a little dictionary of the animal's terms. The author also highlights his knowledge of history, mentioning human conflicts going on during the time period.
Animal Fantasy is its own unique genre that most authors don't foray into, and the target audience is generally children and young adults, so most adults who missed out on this wonderful genre in their childhood just have to look past the simplified writing, because it's mostly written in the wolf cub's viewpoint and they are essentially children. This book's sequel is very good I highly recommend it, I also recommend "Ratha's Creature" and "Promise of The Wolves".
10/10 thank you David for a wonderful childhood memory

Over all a good book
The sight is one of my favorite books so I may be a bit biased but, over all it’s an enjoyable book, jumps around a bit about half way through. Yet near the end it does tie together

AMAZING BOOK
This is by far my favorite book ever written. The way that it is written is sick amazing. I've read this book at least three times, but I was planning on buying the audio book. Clement-Davies is an amazing author, and I wish that they had his second book, Fell. But The sight is a heart gripping book. If you are fainthearted, this wouldn't be the best book ever. I think i might've cried in it. Sadly, i dislike the magic part of it. i didn't like that too much. THE ANIMALS TALK BTW
If you love wolves, adventure, if you can stand death, if you can stand a lot of characters (i had to write them all down, lol), if you LOVE suspense, THIS IS THE BEST BOOK YOU WILL EVER READ!!!!

an old favorite!
This was the first fantasy book i have ever read... that being said, i may be slightly biased because the first time you enter the world of fantasy your life is changed forever! However i just finished listening to this book again as an adult and it was just as great as i remember... sometimes i would stop and laugh at myself for reading about talking wolves, but that goes along with the fantasy genre i guess. I love the characters in this book, and i also love the daringness of Clement-Davies to "go there"... this is not a cookie cutter everyone lives happily ever after read... far from it! If you are looking for something different then give it a try! its an easy read, and you won't regret it!
