Publisher's summary

Upon the shores of an ancient sea in a long-forgotten land, the slaves of Kel - the city of tears - cried out for a hero, one who would save them from their tormented existence. What they got was Silas Kane, the most inept paladin to ever defile a holy symbol.

Raised by insane monks, he’s out to spread the love of his god...whether or not anyone wants it. With a high tolerance for pain and a dump stat in intelligence, Silas is on a quest to end the suffering of those in need - one way or the other.

Enjoyable origin of the paladin we love to hate!

The origin of Silas Kane, hilariously unlikable paladin of the Authors & Dragons podcast, is about as messed up as you'd expect if you're a fan of the series. The tale is delivered with Gualtieri's trademark sarcasm and humor and earns plenty of laughs. Narration is well done and production value is high.

What else could anyone expect from Silas

He is the true hero the world deserves. With no goal other than to help people realize there own sin and help them attempt to strive to fail to receive The blessing of his Nobel true god. If you do not purchase this book at least go forth knowing you are nothing more than the root on the bottom a dwarfs boot.

Funny story about misguided zealot

This is an amusing tale of a zealot and his path through the world. Silas is single minded in his pursuit of devotion to his good, who's will and ethos he does not quite understand, having been taught a twisted version since a young age. His ardent fervor knows no bounds and he carves a path through adversity with hilarious, if bloody, results. A fun short story.

Finally Silas Kane as a True Badass

Rick Gualtieri's Best Book. Silas is so badass his actions not only defeat slavery, an economic sector, and finally the city. He takes down and breaks a Demigod or Avatar's Holiness. Truly the most Badass and Greatest Junior Adventurer.

May Tworag bury us in his audio effluence!

Come brother! Herein lies everything you really wished never to find out about Silas Kane. Listen and learn from these scrolls, scavenged from the depths of Tworag's (Praise Tworag!) least favorite colostomy bag.

Authors and Dragons: Keeping and eye out for more

I was pleasantly surprised by this story. I had never heard of the Authors and Dragons Podcast and only picked it up because the price was good and I like humorous fantasy. Also, I have read some of the Bill the vampire series by Rick Gualtieri and while I eventually got tired of the series, I did enjoy the first several books.

This book was hilarious. The main character is a straw man exaggeration of religious extremism, but just seeing how he interacts with the world and how the world reacts to him is great.

As a bonus, I ended up looking up Authors and Dragons and finding the podcast which I've also been now listening to and enjoying and which has introduced me to a few new authors who works I think I will enjoy.

Perfect portrayal of his A&D podcast character!

Great story! Kudos to Matt for the reading as well. The only thing I felt it was missing was Rick's actual voice whenever Silas spoke. His super quick succession of breaths (sorry Rick - I know this is actually you) mid-sentence during the A&E podcast always reminded me of that creepy little guy from Raiders of the Lost Ark and that fit the character of Silas SO perfectly that not even a professional voice actor could touch it. Excellent writing here. If you're a fan of the Author's and Dragons podcast, it is definitely a must buy.
