Publisher's summary

Called a cross between Harry Potter and The Hobbit, The Soulweb is a fun fantasy romp with adventure, suspense, and chills.

The spell of an ancient ancestor king throws Jaron into the middle of a war when that king returns from beyond the grave.

Jaron discovers that his whole life was only a disguise. His friends weren’t who he thought they were, and his father who he thought was dead, wasn’t. In a war of kings, he might be the final piece of a plan that started centuries ago.

Does Jaron have the strength to become the person everyone else expects him to be?

Fantastic Fantasy story with great narration!

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This was a fantastic fantasy story with interesting characters. The story moves at a good, if fast pace. There is good character development and world building and the narration was quite good. David Swanson really helped bring this novel to life for me. My interest was held the entire time. Well worth the credit if you ask me.

An intelligent, lively read.

I love this book. Memorable characters and detailed action (even in a fantasy setting) make it seem as though it may have really happened in the twelfth century. The writing is descriptive, bringing the reader into the setting, but does not restrict the action scenes. The soulweb itself is a satisfying creative detail.

One of my favorite (non-spoiler) lines occurs in the second chapter. "The spent embers of the fire had allowed the chilling hands of a dying winter to reach in through the open window and steal the warmth from the room, leaving the smooth floor cold."

My favorite detail, though, is the construction of strong female characters, who are written entirely without condescension.

The ending of the book is frustrating, since there is surely a lot more to the story, but it makes the decision about my next listen easy!

It's a good one

Where does The Soulweb rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's a fun story with some interesting twists on fantasy tropes, and the action doesn't let up from the start. Very audio friendly.

What other book might you compare The Soulweb to and why?

Of the books I've read/listened to this year, The Bow of Destiny is probably similar in vibe, from the hero with the surprise lineage to fast-paced plot. I think I liked The Soulweb slightly better though.

What does David Swanson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He carries the pace well, and will keep you listening even though you prbably should be doing something else instead.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Ties that bind

The Soulweb is a great fantasy title. You've got action, magic, heroic deeds, romance, and of course, the obligatory dwarf mentor with a Scottish accent.

Recommended for fans of the Dragon Age series, as it feels somewhat in the same vein.

A good book with many twists and turns!

This book was great, the story moves along at a pace that perfectly matches the story arcs. The characters develop organically and you quickly form attachments.
The mix of adventure and fantasy is well balanced and serves to tell the story.

The narration is very good giving real emotion and identity to each character throughout the book.

In summation this is a good adventure/fantasy book that is worth listening to.
