Publisher's summary

The Story of a Soul (l'Histoire d'une Âme) is the autobiography of Thérèse of Lisieux. It was first published on September 30, 1898, a year to the day after her death from tuberculosis at the age of 24, on September 30, 1897. The book was a single volume formed from three distinct manuscripts - manuscripts of different length, written at different times, addressed to different people, and differing from one another in character. The work of unifying these disparate manuscripts was carried out by Pauline, the sister of Thérèse. It was initially published with a limited audience in mind, the Carmelite convents and certain religious personalities, and just 2000 copies of the 475-page book were printed. It quickly became a publishing phenomenon, however, and Sister Thérèse of the Child Jesus was canonised in 1925. St. Dismas Catholic Classic editions are all new translations.

The voice is annoying

Great content, but the voice is annoying. The reader stretches out the last word of every paragraph, but speeding up the audio a little helps some. Otherwise, its a great way to enjoy a great work, but you might want to listen to a sample before buying.

A beautiful story of a beautiful soul

I have a hard time putting into words how I felt while listening to the story of ”The Little Flower”. At times the story will bring the listener to tears and it is hard to continue. It is very hard to not know that God does exist when presented with the words written by “The Little Flower”. I know that God loves me and it is evident that she loved him with every fiber of her being.

Absolutely loved. Will be reading this again.

I was hungering for something to listen to while working this lent instead of my regular romance novel.

Thank God for helping me to say yes to the promptings of the Holy Spirit to try a Catholic religious book. I absolutely loved listening to this book. I had been afraid that I will be bored while listening to it but far from it. The narrator was really good and her tone is so calming/soothing. I'll have to listen to it again in order to better internalize the many wonderful insights found in it. Thank God for the blessing of His many Saint's examples for us.

l definitely recommend this to everyone.

Blessings!!

The Story of a Soul - A great listen.

This is a very good product and it is easy to listen to while driving or walking. I think it is ideal for listening to it rather than reading her autobiography. It might be good to listen to it over after reading it first. It is very good overall and it is narrated very well.

What a story!

I've wanted to read this book for quite a while so when I saw it on Audible I jumped at it. St. Therese was duch an amazing human. I thoroughly enjoyed the story, but I really wish the reader read the book as if she were St. Therese. Some emotion & a less robotic voice would have been most desirable.

I couldn't get over the narrator's voice

There's nothing wrong with the sound of the narrator's voice, but the cadence and intonation is totally devoid of emotion to the point that it made me wonder if it has been electronically contrived. I'm sorry to write a bad review to such an amazing and lovely book.

Computer voice big disappointment

I was disappointed with the presentation/reading of this book. It sounds like a machine, which makes it unbearable for me to listen to. I tried to give it a second chance weeks later, and nope, it is still unbearable.

Could not get past the narrator’s voice to continue with the book

Could not get past the narrators voice to continue with the reading of the book. It sounded like a computer was reading to me
