As the Great War drags on, German Uboats prowl the North Atlantic, torpedoing military and civilian vessels alike. When a shipwrecked man is recovered at sea, he tells a strange and disturbing tale of his experience on a German submarine. Has the experience driven him mad, or did his voyage reveal unseen monstrosities at the bottom of the ocean?

Historia
A story from the renowned tales of "Xiccarph": Before Tiglari, many brave souls had the same noble dream of scaling and crossing through the forbidding palace of Maal Dweb. So far, none who attempted this feat has ever returned or have been seen again. But Tiglari, the jungle hunter skilled in destroying dangerous beasts, was undeterred by the hideous odds that lay before him!

Historia
The plague of the "silver death" descended hard upon the land or Yoros, exactly as foretold by ancient astrologers. Countless victims fell instantly where they were stricken, including messengers racing to tell of itscoming. Young King Fulbra, protected from the plague by a magic ring, fled Yoros by ship in search of an island his advisors believed would welcome him. Before long, however, a sudden hurricane set the king on course for another island with a very different reputation.

Historia
With inhuman solemnity, the voice of the necromancer went on in a priest-like chant until the last echoes died out in hollow, sepulchral vibrations. Then the colored vapors cleared away. But the pale unearthly glow still filled the changer, and between Malygris and the door where hung the unicorn's head there stood the apparition of Nylissa!

Historia
With Conan the Cimmerian, Robert E. Howard created more than the greatest action hero of the twentieth century---he also launched a genre that came to be known as sword and sorcery. But Conan was not the first archetypal adventurer to spring from Howard's fertile imagination.

While Lovecraft's Tsathoggua was first to print, he was only briefly mentioned in "The Whisperer in Darkness." In "The Tale of Satampra Zeiros" Tsathoggua is fleshed out with a wonderfully macabre and slightly humorous description: "He was very squat and pot-bellied, his head was more like that of a monstrous toad than a deity, and his whole body was covered with an imitation of short fur, giving somehow a vague suggestion of both the bat and the sloth. His sleepy lids were half-lowered over his globular eyes; and the tip of a queer tongue issued from his fat mouth. In truth, he was not a comely or personable sort of god..."
Needless to say, this story is a classic of weird fiction, and the reading by Jim Gallant is marvelous as you can tell by the sample. This is the type of audiobook that rewards full focus, and I personally enjoy visually reading stories such as this along with the narration for full immersion.
