Publisher's summary

Tryam dreams about becoming a legendary paladin of old and combating the evil that is falling across Medias like a malevolent shadow. But as a ward of the Church, he is forced to obey every whim of an overbearing abbot who preaches peace above all else.

Dementhus is a wizard of immense power and even greater ambition. To further his ends, he has broken faith with the Wizard Council and has learned the forbidden magic of necromancy. As payment for this knowledge, he must deliver to the Dark God a weapon from the time of the Ancients: an unstoppable artifact known as a Golem.

When the sinister machinations of Dementhus results in the kidnapping of one of Tryam’s friends as well as the murder of another friend’s father and the brutal destruction of their village, the youth is compelled to disobey the abbot and venture into the unknown, armed only with his faith.

This is a time of growing chaos, as great civilizations fall into decay and ruthless powers fight to fill the void, a time when the cruel can rise to power from the words of a single spell and the honorable fall from the chop of a bloody axe. This is an age in desperate need of heroes.

Worth It?

Love it so far. Not fully finished but I like it. It’s perfect for the coming of age story.

Great start!

Wonderful start to a new series! A few pacing and story issues, which is expected with new authors, but overall a great story and performance! Highly recommend if you like classic sword and sorcery novels or high fantasy novels.

Well Done

A welcome change of pace from the grim dark world of modern
fantasy. Solid pacing, solid narrator and very enjoyable story to listen to. Very well done adventure fantasy

An epic start

Well written and engaging, this novel had great pacing, character building and an interesting world created for it and I look forward to more that will come. Highly recommend for fans of fantasy. I would rank it up there with The Belgariad series or Dragonlance.

Intrigued and invested

I was instantly invested in these young characters. This is dark fantasy but it carries enough push and pull to keep you on the edge.
Also, though the story is action packed, it did not feel like the narrative suffered from it.

I'm very much looking forward to the next installment.

Ponderous

Slow and a tad boring. Struggled to get through it. Narrator is coma inducing. Don't listen on a long drive, it could be hazardous.

Excellent light weight fantasy story

Engaging, not overly complex, good “listen while” book. Appropriate for tween and teen readers but still enough of interest for adults.
