About this listen

This brand-new unabridged audiobook of The Two Towers, the second part of J. R. R. Tolkien’s epic adventure The Lord of the Rings, is read by the BAFTA award-winning actor, director, and author Andy Serkis.

The company of the Ring is torn asunder. Frodo and Sam continue their journey alone down the great River Anduin - alone, that is, save for the mysterious creeping figure that follows wherever they go. This continues the classic tale begun in The Fellowship of the Ring, which reaches its awesome climax in The Return of the King.

Featured Article: Character Guide—Gandalf

Sometimes known as Gandalf the Grey or Gandalf the White, this wizard is an iconic character in J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy. He is beloved for his wisdom, for his true heart, and for oftentimes speaking in clever and humorous riddles. Gandalf may be quick to anger and a formidable enemy, but he is truly good natured, spirited, and quick to laugh. And he is brave. While not afraid when confronted, he is hesitant to take on formidable opponents until he knows that he has the power and tactical advantage to do so—yet another reason why Gandalf is the wisest character in all of Tolkien's writings!

My low hopes were blown away

I never thought a narrator would put in the time and effort needed to master this epic trail. but Andy has. He has outperformed his marginal Hobbit narration and taken the LOTR to an entirely new level of greatness. Flawless, artful naration. Epic story needed and epic naration. Andy delivered, BIG TIME!

My Favorite Book

My favorite of the trilogy, and my favorite actor reading it. It is quite literally the perfect audiobook for me. The performance of each character and the reading of Tolkien's descriptions are amazing. Serkis shows his quality, the very highest.

Really well done!

I wasn’t sure about Andy Serkis reading this, but I am most pleasantly surprised! No…he doesn’t do a great job with female voices, but then again, there are not a ton of female characters anyway. He doesn’t have a lot of character changes in voice either, but the man can build an atmosphere like few others I’ve ever heard. He can make the hair stand up on your neck, or bring the bitter tears to your eyes. I’ve read this series probably hundreds of times, but this was my first time hearing someone read it to me and I loved it! Well done indeed!

A must have!

As soon as I found out Andy Serkis was going to be recording I jumped all over this like a Hobbit on a pint of Green Dragon ale. Amazing performance!

The Two Towers as it should be read!

There’ll only way this audiobook quality can be beaten is if the whole cast from Peter Jackson’s trilogy came to narrate their own parts. Andy Serkis however does such an incredible job here that you can’t helped but get sucked into the story. With him reprising his skills with Gollum’s voice it’s like listening to an extended extended version of the movies. If your a fan of The Lord of the Rings, this is a must listen to!

Best possible narration of this story

Serkis provides an amazing update to the venerable Inglis versions. As for the story itself, I greatly respect it for it's impact but the actual content is incredibly hit and miss. This book is consistently better than the last one though.

Probably the best narration performance

Andy Serkis absolutely makes this already amazing story spectacular. his range in voices and the ability to convey a scene with perfect inflection and emotion blows me away. He actually added depth to widely well known characters. As with the written book and the movies this absolutely stands alone in performance and interpretation. If you own the books and the movies then you must own this audio book. the triumverant lock in for this story.
