Great story 5 star read

The characters are amazingly written and the development between Rose and Gideons love story was truly a gift to read. The pace is great, the love scenes are hot, the narrator did a phenomenal job. I look forward to reading all of the books by Ms. Ava Devlin.

4.5 stars rounded up

Rose d’Aubrey has been engaged twice, only to have her prospective grooms perish before the wedding day. She’s since become gossip fodder and has come to terms with her fate as a spinster and is serving her family in the role of companion to her young cousin during her London debut. But when her cousin is told she’ll be having a hasty wedding to a rich viscount, rather than the season she’s always dreamed of, Rose has to manage her family and come up with a solution to get her cousin out of this situation.

Lord Gideon, Viscount Somers, wants nothing more than to reestablish the good reputation of his family which his father destroyed. He never imagined Rose would wind up back in his life, especially given her frequent appearance in gossip rags, but she’s the only woman he’s ever wanted. With a secret weighing on him, hastening his need to return home to Yorkshire, and a prospective intended who doesn’t even wish to meet him, he’s no longer able to ignore his draw toward Rose and strikes a deal with her instead. An impulsive elopement sees Rose and Gideon learning about each other in an enclosed world of their own, but their newfound connection also has to survive the strain meeting his family is about to cause.

This was such a strong debut. I loved the fast pace and the unique, madcap plotting. This was a bit like a second chance story for Gideon, who had always admired Rose from afar. For Rose, it was a chance to escape her overbearing mother but also to see a man she knew as a friend in an entirely different light. Gideon definitely had his moments of sheer male idiocy, but he redeemed himself well. I did feel that the ending was a bit rushed, and I would’ve liked to have had perhaps one more scene featuring a heart to heart between Gideon and Rose, but I still liked them as a couple, overall. I listened to this as a complimentary audiobook from the author and while the narrator’s voice wasn’t my favorite, I did appreciate her ability to create distinctive voices that helped me differentiate each character and pulled me more fully into the story. This was my first read from this author, but I hope to continue the series now.

Enjoyable!

With the exception of a bit of overwriting (putting way too many words in place of what’s needed) I found this to be a very entertaining and enjoyable story.

The narration was excellent!

The heat got quite steamy!

Excellent well-written romance

I absolutely loved this book and am delighted to find out this is a series! This book, set in the Regency era, was so well written. I really liked the plot and how it brought together Rose d'Aubrey and Viscount Gideon Somers. Miss Rose d'Aubrey has been twice engaged and twice her fiancee has died leaving her with virtually no prospects for marriage. Gideon is trying to help avoid a scandal with his family and needs to take a wife. Through a twist of fate they end up agreeing to marry one another only to realize that they both had affections for each other for a long time. Rose is the perfect match for Gideon and his wild but lovable siblings, who are great characters in their own right. I would recommend reading the novella, Dreamer and the Debutante for the backstory on Gideon's family scandal.
I thought Naomi Rose-Mock's narration was excellent and the accents were perfect! She really does a great job giving each character in the book their own voice, which almost makes you feel like you are listening to play. I have listened to a few of her narrations before and I will definitely listen to more. I hope she narrates the whole series!

I absolutely loved this Audible.

I absolutely loved this Audible. The interaction between the two main characters was refreshing. The storyline actually had me laughing out loud a few times and the characters were fully developed and engaging. The story itself flowed and i didnt want it to end!. Excellent job... i highly recommend this Audible/book...

I was gifted this Audible as an ARC and this is my voluntary and honest review.

Very entertaining

I have read a few books by this author, but this is the first audiobook I have listened to. This is the first of the Somerton Scandals series and it was an entertaining story. I enjoyed the interactions and dialogues between the characters, and couldn't help but laugh out loud in some spots. The storyline and characters were engaging and kept my interest all the way through. Lots of steam, too! The narrator also did a nice job and really made each character stand out. I do hope she narrates the next one as well.

Very enjoyable!
