Publisher's summary

The classic spiritual travelogue by one of Tibet’s best-known explorers, The Way of the White Clouds is the remarkable narrative of a pilgrimage which could not be made today.

In 1948, Lama Anagarika Govinda made an unforgettable journey into Tibet before its invasion by the Chinese. His unique account is not only a spectacular and gloriously poetic story of exploration and discovery; it is also invaluable for its sensitivity and clearly presented interpretation of the Tibetan tradition.

Above all, this book is a vivid and beautifully written account of a personal spiritual journey, his meeting with his guru, Tomo Geshé Rimpoché, and his growing understanding of and commitment to the Vajrayana tradition of Buddhism.

Earthly wisdom, but never find God

I sometimes read these types of books because there is wisdom to learn, but unfortunately they never actually find fulfillment because they never come to know the One true God who loves them which is ultimately the entire point of our existence

An absolute must read Precious Book

This book is an account of a truly great and precious Lama, describing an amazing time and place which Tibet once was. A place where actual miracles were witnessed, where true sainthood was common, and where true Buddhas could be encountered in the form of teachers. This book has truly put to rest my doubts about reincarnation and has reaffirmed and strengthen my resolve on the path.

I highly recommend it!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

I so enjoyed this book. Tibet has a fascination for me as I am studying Buddhism. When you check YouTube you can find a expedition to Mt. Kailash and other places in Tibet. I was sorry when I came to the end of the book and will certainly return to it at a later date. The narrator Sean Barrett is a pleasure to listen to. Thank you Audible for making this book available to us, JK.

An inner and outer journey into a world now gone

Lama Govinda brings Western learning and the eye of an artist to the East and relates his and his wife's
experiences on their quest into Western Tibet just before the Chinese takeover and gives a heartfelt and
highly conscious account of their quest to record the art at the even then runined city of Tsaparang .
Beautifully narrated by the writer as well as by the reader.
For anyone interested in Tibet and it's ancient culture and religion. For Buddhist and non-Buddhist alike.
A gem!!!

Visit Tibet Without Leaving Home

Narrator and story were so well done, I was experiencing the events and scenery. It was more of a spiritual journey.

Maitreya

A travelogue of profound sensitivity and insight of a world less traveled. Humanity is all the richer for Anagarika Govinda's profound effort to share this labor of love with the world ❤

Inspirational with excellent narration.

I was saddened whenif heard the words "And so I will close this book ..." , because it meant it was over. The narration was so good. Right tempo, intonation, everything.

A book to reread as you live life

I actually meet him once, what the Easterners call darshan. He was a remarkable man almost ethereal in his presence. I read his book as a teenager. I just ran across his book much later in life. I found it as inspiring as it was on my first read. I think you will enjoy it as well.
