Publisher's summary

Twenty years after prom queen Cassie Kennedy is brutally murdered, six teenagers break into the house where she was killed to hold a séance. Haven knows his cousin Elise only wants to scare the crap out of him and his friends, but he's willing to put up with one of her pranks if it means a chance to spend a few hours with the new kid in town, Pierce Hunter.

But when morning comes, Elise has disappeared without a trace.

Twelve years later, Pierce and his twin brother Jordan are professional paranormal investigators, starring in their own ghost-hunting TV show. When Pierce calls Haven, insisting they return to the supposedly haunted building one last time, Haven reluctantly agrees. He's nervous about seeing Pierce again, but he's determined to get some answers. Did they really speak to Cassie's ghost that night? What happened to Elise? And the biggest mystery of all - how did she know the secret of the well?

O.M.G.!!!

I bought this books on a whim today for no other reason than it was the first whispersync book I found by a narrator I liked.
The book being 6 hours and 42 minutes I expect I have a for tomorrow too...but I started it and suddenly it was finished, and I had done the whole thing in one go.
Never read or listen to this author before. But OMG! the books is good. Amazing story, and great characters. Topped off with amazing narration. Made this phenomenal, highly recommendable.

Great mystery!

I enjoyed this book, I was captivated from the first to the last word wanting to know what happened next, always wanting to know more.

The Well is a two part story, one part mystery and one part ghost story. 12 years ago Haven, his cousin Elise along with a few friends, including the twins Jordan and Pierce, broke into the town’s most infamous house. It's been rumoured to be haunted by the girl that was murdered there years earlier. A séance and a few scares later it's time to go to sleep. Only the next day, Elise is nowhere to be found, and 12 years later her disappearance is still a mystery.

This book is told from Haven's POV and one question has been plaguing him for the last 12 years: What really happened that night Elise disappeared? He is convinced that Jordan, the last person that saw her alive killed her, so in order to bring him to justice he agrees to go on the show, re-living and remembering what happened so long ago.

Jordan and Piece was also deeply affected by that night. Today, they have a paranormal investigators TV show where they travel around to haunted places to search for the unknown. A tip has brought them back to where it all started, investigating the haunted house and maybe talk to a ghost or two in the process.

Don't go into this book expecting an epic romance story, because that's not what you get. There is barely any romance near it. Now don't get me wrong, I don't need my romance books to be hot and heavy, far from it, but I do want some kind of connection, something that shows why the characters fall for each other. I want to feel the emotions between them, but it was lacking in this book. We were never there for the first kiss between Haven and Pierce. We were told what happened after the fact and mostly in passing. It was a bit anticlimactic to tell you the truth.

And the paranormal aspect you ask. Well. I guess that will depend on you - are you a sceptic or a believer, because this book could go either way. Either there were ghosts communicating with the living or it was all in their - and your imagination, making the whole thing up because you expect it to be there. I loved this approach. It was refreshing and also just right. You question along with the characters, waver and stand firm in your beliefs and in the end it is all left up to you to decide - where there ghosts - or was it only our imaginations?

I loved John Solo's narration of this book. He captured the eerie and haunted feeling Sexton wrote with her words. He brought you into this book, and held you captive and I loved listening to him.

Recommended for the overall story, not so much the romance.

Entertaining PNR Ghost Story/Murder Mystery

This is an entertaining ghost story that mixes elements of teenage truth or dare, m/m romance, paranormal ghost hunting, and cold case murder mystery.
The story of six teenagers, looking for spooky adventure, who break into a "haunted house" which is the scene of a murder/sucide from years before, and the subsequent disappearance of one of their own group that night.
Told from the perspective of Haven, who is the cousin of Elise.
The book switches alternately from the night of the teens actions/memories of the night of Elises's disappearance to 12 years later when adults Haven, who is a horror author, and twins Pierce and Jordon who have a cable tv show featuring them as "ghost hunters".
Haven, Pierce and Jordan in present day recall the events of 12 years before, and try to solve the unsolved mystery of Elise.
This was a well written mystery that moved seamlessly from past to present. There were some nicely spooky parts, and a whodunit mystery that kept me guessing until the end.
John Solo is an excellent narrator as always.
I love all of Marie Sexton's m/m romances, and I enjoyed this m/m romance mystery very much, hopefully she will be writing more mysteries in the future.

A wonderfully spooky story.

I really enjoyed this book. It was creepy and I didn't guess the ending. I thought I knew, but I was wrong. The narration was quite well done.

Great mystery with a good message

This was such a great mystery with a eerie feel and a deep message. It's about friendship and how far you'll go to protect those you love. It's about accepting who you are and not being ashamed. It's also about how secrets don't stay buried forever. And sometimes you never know who you really can trust. I am not going to give any details away. It's a wild ride from start to finish. I will say that it's a great mystery that will shock you and keep you guessing. You will feel personally connected to all the characters, living and deceased. This narrator is the perfect voice to tell the story. I didn't want it to end! A must read/listen to book.

Do You Believe In Ghosts?

I generally avoid the "horror" genre but this tale is not nightmare-inducing so much as an exploration of the possibilities of the paranormal (ghosts) and the energy associated with evil. In this almost YA coming of age story, a group of kids hold a séance in a haunted house and one . . . disappears. Twelve years later, two of the original group have become ghost-hunting TV stars and a third writes horror novels. When they come together they attempt to solve the puzzle of what happened to Elise--a cold-case mystery! As secrets are revealed it seems there is more tragedy in store.

Narrator John Solo does a wonderful job bringing to life the various characters in this well-developed novel which explores a wide variety of themes.

Great Scare

Any additional comments?

This book grabbed me from the very beginning. The story flowed very well and each character was easily distinguished from the other by the narrator. I listened to this at night in bed and I definitely found the hairs on the back of my neck standing up a few times. I would recommend this book for sure to anyone who is into paranormal thrillers.

Fantastic ghost story!

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I thought this was a great ghost story that was narrated well. I loved that it was told from the perspective of TV Show ghost hunters. We love watching those types shows in my family, so it was neat to listen to a book like this. John Solo does a great job of giving characters a unique voice, so the book really comes to life. If you like a good ghost story, this is definitely worth your time.
