About this listen

Charlie Rhodes has the one thing she always wanted but was afraid to admit. The parents who gave her up for adoption are back in her life, but the transition from orphan to adult child isn’t going to be an easy one. Before she can commit to the process, however, a new job pops up for the Legacy Foundation, and she’s whisked away to Upstate Washington.

A group of teens celebrating graduation and preparing for college have gone missing in Nighthawk, a former boomtown that has exactly one resident, a crazy old bootlegger who wanders the area dropping ominous warnings before disappearing into the darkness.

The Legacy Foundation is called out when several bodies are found, all with the sort of injuries that can’t be easily explained, and local law enforcement officials find themselves stumped. From the first day at the town, Charlie knows they’re in trouble as the memories of one of the missing teens threaten to overwhelm her. Is the girl still alive? Did she fall with the others and simply hasn’t been found? More importantly, what are they dealing with?

The specter of an evil witch hangs over Charlie, and she’s eager for something else to focus on. Unfortunately, that’s easier said than done when it becomes apparent that Sybil knows exactly where they are.

There’s more than one killer in the Washington woods, and both serve as a significant threat to Charlie. She’ll need to overcome two threats to keep her team safe...and figure out the one thing that’s so far evaded her.

What does Sybil want? You’re about to find out, and the answer might shake the foundation of everything Charlie believes she knows.

Finally, the whining almost stopped

This series has been fun. I only have one criticism that culminated in the last book! The interchanges between Jack & Charley got to be nauseating because of Charley's incessant whining. She even kept it up when talking to Chris, and has started being argumentative and defensive about women's rights to a fault. I believe upstanding up, but really! Give it a rest!

We get a missing piece

Questions are answered, that more questions arise.Questions are answered, that more questions arise. Really enjoying this series. I love Jack and Charlie's relationship. I love how supportive he is coma and just accepts all the crazy that goes on around her. I like it when Harley makes an appearance. I'm over her dad and the way he acts. He needs to get with the program. I wonder what's going to end up happening with Laura. We get a bit of a showdown at the end, and get more info on Charlie's past. The confrontation was a little bit anticlimactic compared to what I was expecting. Though its not the main showdown. Really looking forward to the next book.
Narrator does a good job.

another great addition ( Jack needs a make over)

another great chapter. loved the story.
Here is my issue
I love Charlie , I really do. but at this point I don't feel she's developed at all as a charcater, or she's just use to everyone giving her, her way.
in the first book she admired the witches from the first story for being a family and being thier for one another . she finds her birth parents and brother and treats them like they mean nothing. she's heartless when it comes to them. I get she's upset, but at this point she understands why they let her go. she finally met cybil and understands what cybil wants, she knows cybil killed her entire family trying to get to her ( even killed adoptive parents) and she is still mad. like get over yourself and be grateful to have the opportunity. she's to caught up in Jack, who at times acts like a overbearing Parent. he tells her what to eat, when to eat, what to drink, when to sleep and she's perfectly fine with it.
Jack acts as if he only cares about Charlie and nobody else in thier group, and half the time comes across as very angry , hateful, and rude to name a few.
we don't need to always hear how crazy for one another Jack and Charlie are for each other, at this point we know they are in love....it's almost like they gotta reassure one another.
other than that, the story was great. and I love Charlie, but at this point I'm disappointed with her, and cutting her family off. I get she's mad ( because they gave her away) but she needs to figure it out. and figure out if she wants them around to actually have a family or just hurt them.
I hope she grows and matures in the next few books.
