About this listen

Jane Hawk - fiction's most relentless, resourceful, stunning new heroine - continues her battle against a murderous conspiracy in the riveting sequel to The Silent Corner.

"No time to delay. Do what you were born to do. Fame will be yours when you do this."

These are the words that ring in the mind of mild-mannered, beloved schoolteacher Cora Gundersun - just before she takes her own life, and many others', in a shocking act of carnage. When the disturbing contents of her secret journal are discovered, it seems certain that she must have been insane. But Jane Hawk knows better.

In the wake of her husband's inexplicable suicide - and the equally mysterious deaths of scores of other exemplary individuals - Jane picks up the trail of a secret cabal of powerful players who think themselves above the law and beyond punishment. But the ruthless people bent on hijacking America's future for their own monstrous ends never banked on a highly trained FBI agent willing to go rogue - and become the nation's most wanted fugitive - in order to derail their insidious plans to gain absolute power with a terrifying technological breakthrough.

Driven by love for her lost husband and by fear for the five-year-old son she has sent into hiding, Jane Hawk has become an unstoppable predator. Those she is hunting will have nowhere to run when her shadow falls across them.

Flying high with Jane Hawk

Dean Koontz’s The Whispering Room is the second in a series featuring Jane Hawk, FBI agent on the run to ‘unofficially’ investigate an outbreak of unusual suicides, including that of her husband. Jane takes leave from the agency to pursue the truth, but soon draws the attention of shady government and other nefarious groups that have launched a mind control plot involving inject-able nano-technology.

Dean Koontz does his usual fabulous job introducing us to an evil crew of over-the-top antagonists, who have bad intent, mayhem and, yes, world domination, on their minds. Despite their access to every high tech tracking tool, including community video, license plate scanning, facial recognition software, and website monitoring, Jane somehow manages to stay one step ahead of her pursuers...or does she? There are questions remaining at the end that make me wonder which way Jane will go in the next installment.

This is a great entry by Dean. The story moved quickly, with nonstop suspense. The tracking technology described in the book is very scary. I hope it is not real because it suggests that nothing we do is private, which I know is partly true (but only partly). Anyway, I loved this book and recommend it highly, although I think you should read The Silent Corner first. More Jane Hawk please!

The Whispering Room

I gave this Audio book 5 stars. It was even more gripping than the Silent Corner. Please say that there will be a third book coming soon. Dean Koontz is a great writer, one of my favorites. I've experienced many narrators who do a fair job, but Elisabeth Rodgers is excellent. I didn't want this ride to end.

Enjoyed

This story kept my attention from the beginning. Many twists and turns, although a few fanciful sections, it was still worth listening to the entire story. I liked the narrator, good job on different characters and a voice that didn’t put me to sleep or cause anxiety.

WOW!

Really loved the 2nd volume of Jane Hawk, I could not stop listening. I love Dean Koontz but have not been this spellbound by one of his series since the Odd Thomas series. Can't wait to hear the next Jane Hawk book!!

Interesting book

Narrator was good and the premise was interesting. Not one if my favorites. Still I felt it worth my time. Has to have a sequel because if the way it ends.
