Publisher's summary

There have been mixed feelings about the changes in Caldaca since the black star. Ayden and Merlin just want things to settle down for them at the castle. When Nimue shows up and tells them that Gmork has gone missing, it is only the beginning of their most exciting and dangerous adventure yet.

This time, it will be their hearts that are tested. With the help of old and new allies, they must attain the heart of Baltezore, a dangerous weapon against dragons. To save the people they love, they will have to face old enemies, terrible curses, gruesome monsters, dark secrets, and their own flaws.

Amazing series!

First off, I would start with the beginning of this series if you've not listened to/read any of them.... however, I think you'll like them so much that you'll have to get the entire series once you start listening! The story is captivating and I keep hoping for more of the adventure. I love that Merlin isn't completely all knowing in these books and that there's things that even he is afraid of.

Also, the narration is spot on. I've listened to several books by J Scott Bennett and I always jump at the chance to listen to more books he narrates!

Magic, adventure and great characters

I love this series, it gets better with each book written. There is lots of intrigue, adventure, risks, magic and great characters in this story. It ties up some threads that have been ongoing in the series and opens up some new exciting ones. The character continue to grow and change as they experience new challenges and you can really feel the heartache, strife and bonds of friendship present in this story. These character have faults, regrets and make mistakes; they feel love, loss, fear and anger. The narrator does a great job of bringing out the humour and making you experience the emotions right along with the characters. His voices are unique to each character and recognizable from one book to the next. It’s an entertaining story with great characters and I will look forward to the next in the series.

Adventure, Magic, Fantasy and Sorcery

This book was like a breath of fresh air for me since I haven't really read or listened much from this genre since I was a teen. Anyway, I liked the story despite the fact that it was the first book of the series that I listened. Even so, I liked it that this book talked a little about the previous books, as well as the history of the main characters. I have always like Merlin and that's probably one of the reasons I liked this story.

The tale was nicely written in great details - made me feel like I was actually there watching all the magic and sorceries being showcased - which was matched with a narration that kept me listening on and on for hours. I would love to know more of Ayden's adventures with Merlin and the rest of the gang.

The Magic of Friendship

This installation of the Sorcerer's Saga focuses heavily on friendship, which is an ongoing theme in the series. The main friendship is of course our much loved master/apprentice duo - Merlin and Ayden. Then there's more to the story of Merlin, Gmork, and Nimue. It's really quite fascinating how Oxford brings together all these wonderful characters and stories. Truly great world building. Her writing is very much character driven, as such Ayden has really grown since the start of the series which is wonderful to see while still remaining true to himself. There's a bit of a blossoming romance that gets a little more fuel for its fire between him and Kay. Truly - she's awesome and I love that Ayden knows she can handle herself and lets her. J Scott Bennett continues to be the perfect narrator for our not-so-inept-anymore sorcerer and his madcap adventures. I can't wait for the next book!
