About this listen

Jerry Anderson was an astronaut faced with an impossible choice: die of asphyxiation in a few hours or see if the alien pod he was transporting really was an escape pod and find out if it could actually save him.

When he enters it, he finds that the controls are unreadable, lacking anything to go on, and rapidly running out of air. He presses the blinking green button.

The next thing he knows, he isn’t human anymore, and he finds himself on a seashore, next to some birds feasting on a body that looks very similar to his new body.

He is alive, but staying alive will be a challenge, and he will be able to communicate with the locals, assuming the next ones he finds dont kill him on sight.

The narration was surprisingly OK

The story was entertaining, and while it was not well written being somewhat choppy in the dialogue portions, it shows great promise.

Outstanding fresh ideas, wish books were longer

The computer narration is easily tolerated. I've been going through several of the available titles from this author and have found some truly new ideas and plots play out.

I do wish they were longer books especially if in a series or a never ending series (which I don't like). I figure $1/hour is worth my credit, so unless over 12 hours, I'm skipping it. The length is the only spot (besides narration options) where the books by this author fall short. A meat narrator could probably enhance performance, but I'm ok with how it is or even a step up, synthesize male and female voices or use a few different voices for the different characters i the story the same way meat narrators do. That would require a lot of markup but between enunciation/diction hints along with pause management, but it would be time well spent. If this were a meat narrator, I wouldn't be leaving this review as I would have skipped it for not being long enough, so the narration is perfect for me.

Otherwise, I'd like these to be twice as long, the author certainly seems to have the imagination to complete such a feat!

Entertaining

I see a lot of negative reviews which I am confused by. The work is very entertaining and enjoyable. Not sure why the audiobook is free. Pony up for a human narrator and watch the cash roll in. I don’t believe it’s supposed to be a historical work of art remembered for thousands of years and taught in middle schools. But. I come here to turn the brain off and enjoy the work. Can’t wait for the sequel. I would say bravo author. Bravo

I don't like Virtual Voice

The Virtual Voice is great technology, but it doesn't compare to an actual reader. All of the characters are voiced the same and exclamatory statements, humor and sarcasm are sometimes lost. Consequently, the nuances of the characters are lost or don't fully develop. Since the narration didn't draw me in, I fear the story suffered.

I much prefer a practiced reader.

AI Narration Needs MUCH Improvement!

The story might have been enjoyable, but the AI narration killed it for me. It was like chewing cardboard and trying to convince yourself it's a ribeye steak. No voice variations (pitch/pace) or inflections to convey importance, emotions or meaning.
AI narration still has a long, LONG way to go before it can adequately emulate a real voice actor...
