Sometimes our worst mistake is our best outcome.

A woman, doing a favor for her (ex) brother in law, places a humongous bid on a guy named Todd, at a charity auction. Only it's the wrong guy.

The story doesn't end there, and it's a great tale, which shows we should not tell a person by their appearance.

AWESOME!!!!!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Wrong Todd to be better than the print version?

Yes!!! I didn't think it could be better, or that I would enjoy it more, but I did!!!

What did you like best about this story?

The pronunciation of the Hawaiian words brought totally different pictures to my mind than when I read the print version!

What does Allyson Johnson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Knowing how to pronounce the Hawaiian words and the huskiness of her voice really made this book come alive for me!!!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES!! Unfortunately, I don't get paid to listen to books, so I had to put it aside for 9 hours at a time!!!

Any additional comments?

Highly recommend the audible version of this awesome book!!!!!!

Okay but…

Great premise that had so much potential but I was disappointed. I loved the fact that the main character, Sabine was middle aged and plump. Finally, a real woman!! There was a lot of sexual tension and a couple of very quick sex scenes that left me cold. Either go all in or leave them out all together . Overall this was an okay read but not worth the price.

The narrator dragged down my level of enjoyment considerably. Her reading and intonations were passable and the female voices were okay, however, the male voices were terrible. The attempt at a Hawaiian accent was cringeworthy! Having lived in Hawaii for two years, I know how the accent sounds, and THAT wasn’t even close!! Talking low, slow and enunciating each word des not an accent make.

Any additional comments?

THE WRONG TODD by Donna McDonald is romantic, funny, serious, heartwarming, and written in a very realistic way. A rare story of an older woman being given a second chance at love after being left by a cheating husband. I loved that Sabine was true to herself and didn't allow herself to be carried away by the very romantic and sweet talking, Todd aka The Sexy Chef. I loved that her jerk of an ex gets his. I loved that Todd was a man who immediately saw Sabine's worth and was not discouraged by her rebuttals. Her many rebuttals. He knew she was the woman for him and wasn't afraid to prove himself to her... or wait until she was ready to accept his attentions. The story made me laugh and cry, easily catching me up in the emotional struggles of the characters. The narrator was very good and the story excellent. I liked it so much I've listened to it three times already. 4 stars.

Not as clever as I was hoping for

The premise is very cute, and Jennifer Crusie could have made a great romp out of it. Unfortunately Donna McDonald turned a great concept into a mediocre manuscript.

Sabine is likeable, but not adorable. Todd is likeable but not believable. The voice the narrator created for him sounds as if she is trying to affect a foreign accent. Hey, Hawaii is part of the United States. His voice does not need to sound like English is his second language.

The twist in the drama is set up so that Todd must be willing to risk exposing his deepest vulnerability to win Sabine, but when it plays out there is no tension. There is nothing in the performance that give us reason to believe that Todd is really risking anything important.

This book is okay, but don't go into it with expectations of a great romp.
