About this listen

"They Say / I Say" identifies the key rhetorical moves in academic writing, showing students how to frame their arguments in the larger context of what others have said and providing templates to help them make those moves. And, because these moves are central across all disciplines, the audiobook includes chapters on writing in the sciences, writing in the social sciences, and - new to this edition - writing about literature.

The best-selling book on academic writing - in use at more than 1,500 schools.

Does not sync with the physical book

What did you like best about "They Say / I Say"? What did you like least?

I used this book for my free trial and to help me in my English 101 class for college. My only complaint is that when you get to the reading section which is in the third edition not all of those reading were available in this audio version.

Also the chapters don't sync up as well, as this was for a college course we don't necessarily do the book from front to back. We skip around a bit. The chapters didn't match up to what was in the book. Took a minute to find where I needed to be in the audio book.

Incomplete readings, weird explanations

The readings are incomplete and the context makes no sense. It sounds as if it was a conspiracy story. weird. Not a learning tool I would say.

Mechanics and instruction are good

The instruction and writing tools are great. The organization of the readings in the back of the book are not done well so far as, you don’t know how to locate them (I think). I got frustrated With trying to find them and gave up.

Also, the audio book shows that is the 2016 MLA update version. This may be the case but it’s not the latest one that is being used in classes at Keuka College.

Overall good material and the section that is needed for the mechanics and learning tools is spot on. Had it not been for the inability to locate the readings at the back of book I would have given this 5 stars across the board.

Hard to Listen to....

Would you listen to "They Say / I Say" again? Why?

This book was probably better in print, but the framework is a good model for teaching young students how to write more effectively. The audiobook was hard to track and difficult to follow their writing samples and examples.

Excellent!!!

Read this book, and you will create a mental space between what any author says and what you say; and from there, you will craft your arguments better... much better. It is very easy not to allow the author to present his/her arguments without mentally interrupting the flow of his/her ideas. The discussion on the literature review was my favorite section since I was writing a literature review at the same time. The templates are a plus indeed!!!

I love excellent!!!

A great practical guide to writing as conversation

Great book. Portions seemed a little redundant and repetitive. My only difficulty was the poor computer generated reading of the book. Sometimes the digital pronunciation was hard to understand.

This book needs a "companion", please.

What did you like best about "They Say / I Say"? What did you like least?

I borrowed this book because I needed it for a class at short notice. Many thanks to the authors for having the foresight to make this an audiobook. It was a pleasant surprise. The disappointment crept in when I had a hard time following. This text, in print, has writing prompts which do not translate well in the audio version. A companion PDF of the text would have been awesome. Until then, potential customers should download this audio FILE, which currently has no text companion, their own risks.

Not sure if it is a good audiobook

I was recommended this book to help with writing papers for school. Although I find this book to be good, I think this is better to have a hard copy than in audio format.
