Publisher's summary
2019 Hudson Booksellers Best of the Year
The serial killer isn’t on trial. He’s on the jury.
It’s the murder trial of the century. And Joshua Kane has killed to get the best seat in the house - and to be sure the wrong man goes down for the crime. Because this time, the killer isn’t on trial. He’s on the jury.
But there’s someone on his tail. Former conman turned criminal-defense attorney Eddie Flynn doesn’t believe his movie-star client killed two people. He suspects the real killer is closer than they think - but who would guess just how close?
Praise for Thirteen:
“A brilliant, twisty, ingeniously constructed puzzle of a book. Steve Cavanagh pulls off an enviable premise with panache.” (Ruth Ware)
“Outstanding - an intriguing premise, a tense, gripping build-up, and a spectacular climax. This guy is the real deal. Trust me.” (Lee Child)
“A dead bang BEAST of a book that expertly combines Cavanagh’s authority on the law with an absolutely great thrill ride. Books this ingenious don’t come along very often.” (Michael Connelly)

Now reduced to a schoolyard chant, the Hope family murders shocked the Maine coast one bloody night in 1929. While most people assume seventeen-year-old Lenora was responsible, the police were never able to prove it. Other than her denial after the killings, she has never spoken publicly about that night, nor has she set foot outside Hope’s End, the cliffside mansion where the massacre occurred. It’s now 1983, and home-health aide Kit McDeere arrives at a decaying Hope’s End to care for Lenora after her previous nurse fled in the middle of the night.

Critic reviews
"Sims portrays the lawyer’s first-person narrative with a hint of a New York accent, while giving the other characters slight distinctions as well. The killer’s chapters are written in third person and underscored with boredom, suggesting someone who’s killed many times and lost the thrill. Passing references are made to characters and situations in the previous books, but this installment stands well on its own. Suggest this title both to those who love a legal thriller where the lawyer does more than practice law and to those who like a solid, twisted serial killer tale without the gory details." (Booklist)

I just flat out loved this one. It reminded me so much of the movie, The Lincoln Lawyer. The
author starts us off running and we don't slow down
I appreciated the FBI agent who announced the rising body count.
We readers were just so busy tring to b keep up. I was confused on the names of a couple of the lead characters so
pay close attention as the book starts. This narrator is excellent.
The suthor is excellent. So many surprises. Go for it!

Thriller at the End
This was somewhat gruesome at points, but I really liked the characters. Both lawyer and criminal were very intriguing and complex. This was my first by this author. and it worked as a standalone. However. I would like to read the ones that came before this one now!

Love
Absolutely loved this book. Lots of twist and turns was not predictable. Wasn't "wordy" but made you feel you were there.
