Publisher's summary

The funny, heartwarming, and completely charming first novel from Liane Moriarty, the number one New York Times best-selling author of Nine Perfect Strangers and Big Little Lies.

Lyn, Cat, and Gemma Kettle, beautiful 33-year-old triplets, seem to attract attention everywhere they go. Together, laughter, drama, and mayhem follow them, but apart, each is dealing with her own share of ups and downs. Lyn has organized her life into one big checklist, Cat has just learned a startling secret about her marriage, and Gemma, who bolts every time a relationship hits the six-month mark, holds out hope for lasting love.

In this wise, witty, and hilarious novel, we follow the Kettle sisters through their tumultuous 33rd year as they deal with sibling rivalry and secrets, revelations and relationships, unfaithful husbands and unthinkable decisions, and the fabulous, frustrating life of forever being part of a trio.

Great story, mediocre performance

I love Liane Moriarty books. I’ve read or listened to them all. Ironically, this is her first novel yet is the last I’ve read of her current publications.
This story is as good as the others- engaging characters, great plot and subplots, and always a witty way of unfolding the stories. This is her first ever book, so it’s not quite as accomplished as, say, Big Little Lies, but it is a great and entertaining book and everything you’d expect from a Liane Moriarty work.

The only thing wrong is the narration. It is not nearly as good as other narrations of Moriarty’s books. This one plods along, the voice like a lead weight falling heavily along the sentences at times, and with little emotion or affectation. Yet at other times, it’s too fast between shifts in the story or perspective, so it’s hard to tell there was a shift. She is capable of different voices, so the plodding voice in the narration is strange, and very distracting at times. And though she is capable of different voices, they are not consistent, and it is at times confusing as to who is speaking. And when the book switches from speaking to narration between character lines, the narration voice is often the same as the character voice, making it difficult at times to tell what is character lines and what is narration. All in all, the performance is mediocre as best.

The story is engaging enough that I won’t return the book; that’s a nod to Moriarty and her story telling skills. Hopefully in future books, they go back to using previous narrators.

No plot

The storyline just rambled. The narrator was excellent, but I had a hard time sticking with the book until the end.

So So story

Not really very interesting. I think the characters could be more developed. Maybe some twists?

Love this author!

While some of the character issues were the same issues in another of Moriarty’s books, she always has new and fresh components in her storylines. I love that she always seems to include some very real and sometimes even, shocking components. I never want to put her books down. :)

A good easy listen

I was disappointed after reading the author’s other books. It was however great for a beach listen.

Debut novel labeled 2020

I realized after purchasing that this is actually Liane Moriarty's debut 2003 novel though the release date is 2020 because it must have been released on audible then. While not as excellent as some of her other works it was still great Liane quality.  My one big issue is that the narrator is English and while I love English accents, she narrates well, and she does a good Australian accent, I found it jarring at first that the majority of narration (everything but character speech) is done with an English accent. I expect the same frustration with The Last Anniversary, Moriarty's 2nd novel which was also released late with the same narrator. I love the other narrators so I can't understand why they did this.
