Publisher's summary

Will love happen for them again, or does it only come once?

Jane McCarthy made her way west after the tragic passing of her husband to yellow fever, throwing herself into her work to forget her sorrows. Jane swore love, at her late age, was not to ever happen again.

Derek Bennett went into the wilds of America, making a living on trapping and trying to hide his heart from ever loving someone again. Coming to Denver to resolve a long-standing issue with his son, he never expected to find a woman he wanted to call his wife.

Earning the aloof Jane McCarthy’s affections could prove more troublesome than a grizzly. Will Jane allow her heart to open to love, or will she seclude herself into her work forever?

Sit A Spell With These Characters

This book had so many tender moments that hit you in the feels! This is more than just the average romance. It's a love story between friends, between parents and their children and a story of second chances and forgiveness.

Jane has such a prominent role within the Whitman Hotel that it was a nice change to view her within a different light. Always so reliable and responsible she was always in the shadows keeping everything as it should be. She was reserved but not without heart. Seeing her attain her happily ever after was just the sweetest thing!

These sweet and clean romances are so very well developed! There is a solid back story and pathway to redemption and absolution. I absolutely loved the symbolism and nod to Native Americans that this one gave us. E.A. Shanniak is one memorable author who alway writes with her whole heart and imagination. Travel back to Colorado and sit a spell with these unforgettable characters!

Sweet Historical Romance

I enjoyed this narration a lot except for the pronunciation of Mercantile.
I enjoyed this story too except for the bird scenes. This mountain man and fur trader's deceased wife was part Native American and she believed a dead person was reincarnated as a bird. While he says he never believed it, every time the bird appears, he speaks to his deceased wife as if he does believe it.
But the story of second chances was beautiful as he seeks a relationship with his grown son and ends up falling in love with the manager of the Whitman Hotel!
