I love the era and setting of these books, and the little details the author adds to bring it to life are fun and colorful without screaming "look at all the research I did!" I adore Maggie Sullivan and the other characters swirling around her. The narrator does an excellent job finding just the right amount of sassmouth for Maggie. I'm looking forward to the audio versions of the rest of the books in this series!

This is a great book; this is a great book written by M. Ruth Myers and narrated by Mary Ann Jacobs. When Depression-era private eye Maggie Sullivan is invited to dine with a millionaire, she doesn't expect the first course to be a gun in her face. The story flowed very well and was very enjoyable. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises.The narrator Mary Ann Jacobs did a wonderful job with this book. She did a great job with the different voices of each character in this book. It was very easy to listen to and I didn’t want to stop listening until the end. If you are looking for a great book with well-developed characters then you need to listen to this book. I am looking forward to listening to the next book by this author and narrator. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

I really like the main character, Maggie! She is very likable and I definitely plan to read more from this author. Tough Cookie is fun and entertaining, and I recommend those who enjoy Cozy Mysteries add it to their library.

I have listened to this narrator before, and she does a great job! Her voice, inflection, volume, & pace are right on! I hope to hear much more of her in the future!

Finished the first 2 books and have enjoyed this Depression Era series. The regular cast provides the canvas for Maggie and her back story. Both cases were developed and enhanced by the narrator.

Hopefully the other books in the series will join the first two on Audibled catalog.

Maggie Sullivan delivers again!

In this book set in 1939, Maggie Sullivan, private investigator, gets invited to dinner at the home of Wildman, a very rich man in their city of Dayton, where he seeks to hire her services to locate Harold Draper, a man who swindled $18,000 out of him, an enormous sum for that era. When Draper turns up dead a couple days later, Maggie assumes her employment has come to an end. However, Wildman wants to get to the bottom of the whole situation and asks her to investigate Draper's death and try to locate his hidden partner about whose existence appear only the slightest rumors. This leads Maggie into a wild adventure, with men tailing her and even trying to kill her. But in the end, Maggie succeeds and gets her criminal.

I really enjoyed this book. It particularity brought to life the days of the Depression, with its own unique flavors of life. I also liked seeing Maggie do her detective work on foot instead of just sitting in front of a computer, as people do now.

My one complaint about the book is that there are so many different characters, and many have no real distinct elements to them to help me keep them straight, so I sometimes got lost.

The narrator, Mary Ann Jacobs, was well suited to reading a book that takes place during the Depression. She made that era really come to life.
