Publisher's summary

A delectable variety of real paranormal tales you are sure to binge...

First responders are those that aid us in our time of need. But have you ever wondered that some of their calls may not be classified as "typical"? Ever wondered what happens when you mix ghosts with dispatchers? How about accident sites? I know I have. That is why this book came to be.

After interviewing multiple types of first responders, from 911 operators to police to firemen, you will hear the experiences they cannot quite explain as anything less than "ghostly".

"My eyes pass over the window where I had first seen the foot and leg of the man who once lived here. From where I was standing it looked like two glowing eyes stared back at the two of us. I reached over and smacked Greg's arm. 'Hey, do you see that?' He looks at me then back at the house. 'What?' I point to where I'm looking. 'There, in the window. It looks like two eyes.' His body seems to jerk a little and I know he sees it too. We both stand there for a moment and stare, not sure what else to do." (Excerpt from True Ghost Stories of First Responders)

A decent listen

The was an “ok” listen, some of the stories were pretty corny and seemed a bit made up… I definitely believe in the afterlife, some of these tales were chilling.

A truly great ghost story book for teens through adults

I had been looking for good ghost stories in audio format for such a long time, and was about to give up when I found this series. I’m so glad I didn’t! The First Responders books by these editors are the best ghost stories I’ve heard since the Scary Stories Trilogy and Snap Judgment’s Spooked podcast. Unlike podcasts, these can be listened to one after the other, so they’re perfect for bedtime, doing chores, commutes, and other road trips! I love both the folklore (ghost lore, urban legends, etc.) and “true” paranormal genres. These stories ring true, and made me ponder the continued existence of the soul after death. There are hopeful messages of spirits contacting loved ones, and that we may have more time than we think to “get it right.” EMTs, police officers, and others who deal with tragedy describe unexpected experiences with otherworldly patients and events. They are uniquely situated to have such encounters, in that they are often present at the time of death, or shortly thereafter. Anyone who has lost a loved one or feared death will be alternately spooked and comforted by this book. The narrator has a perfect “cop” voice that is well suited to the writing style the authors adopted for this volume. It has an authentic blue collar feel, and the writing is relatable, not cheesy or melodramatic. It’s perfect for teens through adults. Middle schoolers will also understand and, although there is some mature content that may provoke questions, there is no explicit language, pervasive gore, or gratuitous violence. These are wholesome, yet very haunting, tales. I highly recommend this book!

Disappointing

I was excited to listen to this book, as I love a good ghost story. Unfortunately, there was much to be desired. The stories were okay for the most part, except a couple toward the end (read by the female narrator) sounded absolutely made up. Another issue I had was the last part of the book was a preview of another book altogether, which changed the whole mood. Lastly, both narrators were awful. Mr. Lavkrezel was overly dramatic in most the stories and Miss Evan’s voice was that of a bored teenager. In short, I lost three hours of my life to a book that I’ll never get back, but at least I’ll get a credit returned:)
