About this listen

If I were dead, I wouldn't be able to see. If I were dead, I wouldn't be able to feel. If I were dead, he'd never raise his hand to me again. If I were dead, his words wouldn't cut as deep as they do. If I were dead, I'd be beautiful and I wouldn't be so...ugly.

I'm not dead...but I wish I was.

Hard Story to hear

One of the hardest audio books for me to ever get thru. I sobbed, I cried, it made me so angry. So very well written! It's not a straight thru listen but well worth the time. "I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."

Read the book first, then had to get the audible v

I really enjoyed this book when I first read it, But I loved it when I was able to listen to it. I couldn't stop listening the narrator was amazing. I would recommend this book to anyone. The struggle that this poor girl went through made the second have of the book so worth it. at times it was really hard to read because the abuse that she went through was so sad. I think anyone who has faced abuse should read this book because it really ties into the intense feeling abuse victims get. This book shows that there can be light at the end of the tunnel

Incredible!! Must Read!

I cannot speak highly enough of this raw, emotional and inspiring piece of art. It spoke to me deeper than any memoir I have ever listened to, and I have listened to many. I was drawn to this book having experienced the devil of domestic violence in my own life. Although my experience was different than this incredible woman’s journey, it taught me so much! And even more important than that, is was a source of deep and genuine inspiration. For that, I thank you. Aside from the emotional impact of the book, it was flawless written. I completed it in less than 2 days and could not stop listening. Her words had the power to make you feel as if you know her yourself or were there to experience what she went through. Her strength and courage to share her story undoubtedly will help you spread the ripple effect of awareness and change if you listen to this book.

Great Read

Ugly was a great read by Margaret McHeyzer. Lily has been abused, hurt and abandoned. Her abuse started with her father and ended with her husband. The topic of abuse is a very heavy topic that I believe the author did a good job of handling tastefully. I really enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read more by the author.

WOW, JUST WOW!

For anyone who has gone through abuse, this is a difficult book. The author truly captured the feeling of worthlessness and hopelessness that comes from abuse as well as the happiness that comes from just a little bit of hope. This was heartbreaking to listen to. It starts right in without sugar coating anything. You know what to expect right from the beginning. Lilly's abuse is horrible but the strength she has is also amazing. I loved this character! This was an excellent book with a super narrator. Becca Ballenger brought the pain through as well as the hope and happiness Lilly was feeling. When Becca expressed Lilly's happiness, it really made me smile! I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator.

Couldn't put the book down

Margaret McHeyzer knows how to write a book. This is the second book I have read from her and both times I can't put the book down. The book sometimes is hard to take in whats happening but you keep reading because you hope it will turn around and get better. I think i have found another one of my favorite authors.

OMG

This book has me so up and down. I want to choke the husband and shake the crap out of Lilly. I was so upset throughout this book. I am only on chapter 21 and all I can keep thinking is when is she gonna wake up and smell the coffee.

good.... please read

the story was good but some of the wording got repetitive and some parts near the end didn't really seem believable. The only thing I really don't like about any narrator is when they try to voice the opposite sex it usually sounds ridiculous and is very distracting to the overall story
