Publisher's summary

Ivan thought the world was through giving him second chances. Who'd want a rough ex-con with a savior complex and a bad habit of bringing home helpless strays? Everyone in Blackwood, Virginia, knew he wasn't good enough for the fine things in life; they knew he was too damaged to save. He just needed to keep his head down, work himself to the bone, and pretend he was content with the lot he was given.

Until she came into his life. Until she changed everything. Until he realized he would do anything, fight anyone, tear the world apart if it meant saving her.

Contains mature themes.

I want a man with a slow hand...

I liked the ebook so much that I bought the audiobook for a different experience.

Fully fleshed out, charged, erotic love story written with a sure touch. I have a new author to glom! Ivan is the man The Pointer Sisters were wishing for when they sang "Slow Hand."

I'm halfway through devouring the second book and will probably get that audio as well. While writing this review I upped my rating to 5 stars.

What does Wendy Tremont King bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Great Ms Lloyd voice, Wendy has a nice voice for Uma too!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

To not give away too much, the abuse was very abusive and I hope not a real situation, but probably was..

This has good bones but...

A great opportunity wasted. Too much navel gazing. The characters needed to get the story moving along with more dialogue. I think it's called character development. I had hoped for a stronger H and h. Lots of sex and angst but a paucity of real and believable. Not to say that the situation was impossible, but the people characterized didn't get it off the ground.

Feminism: C DNF

The male hero is portrayed as feminist and letting the heroine to make her decisions about the relationship. The problem is that most of the time, he sounds as if he is pushing her to do sexual stuff-e.g. "Come on baby, I want to feel you. Come on.". To me, this is troubling since the heroine just got out of a really abusive relationship. Also, I do not think it would be realistic for a woman in her position to trust a man so much so soon after and to get sexual so soon. Lastly, I feel like the author went a little overboard with the heroine's back story. The level of abuse comes across as melodramatic and not realistic. It tries to make us feel for the heroine but it's trying waaay too much.
